MDA Space is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to design, administer, secure, automate, monitor, and support enterprise Windows Server and Linux environments across physical, virtual, and hybrid infrastructure. The successful candidate will own operating-system lifecycle management, configuration standards, patching, vulnerability remediation, performance, availability, automation, and technical escalation for Windows and Linux platforms.
The position will also support enterprise virtualization, backup and disaster recovery integration, capacity planning, infrastructure migrations, and the modernization of legacy platforms. The role requires advanced troubleshooting skills, strong PowerShell and Linux shell automation capabilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively with Backup, Network, Security, Application, Cloud, and site operations teams.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the St-Bruno GSI Operations team to deliver reliable infrastructure services and technical expertise supporting operational and customer requirements.
- Design, administer, monitor, and optimize enterprise virtualization platforms, with primary responsibility for Microsoft Hyper-V and Proxmox VE and operational support for VMware vSphere during platform transition and migration activities.
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows and Linux servers across physical and virtual environments.
- Regularly monitor system performance, identify issues, and take proactive measures to prevent downtime.
- Manage appropriate security and high availability configurations to ensure data confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to server and virtual infrastructure.
- Develop and implement automation scripts to improve system efficiency and reduce manual tasks.
- Manage accounts, permissions, and access controls using Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID
- Administer and support VDI solutions such as Citrix to support the business remote access requirements
- Maintain configuration consistency across Windows and Linux environments through automation and configuration management tools.
- Provide senior-level escalation support for complex incidents involving Windows, Linux, virtualization, infrastructure applications, and remote-access platforms.
- Respond to system alerts to remediate issues within defined SLAs.
- Work closely with Backup, Network, Security, Windows, Linux, and Application teams to maintain resilient infrastructure aligned to business RTO and RPO requirements.
- Perform regular system updates, patches, and security configurations.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation of the IT infrastructure.
- Support security and compliance requirements through hardening, access control, privileged account management, patch compliance, vulnerability remediation, and audit evidence.
- Conduct capacity planning and prepare recommendations for hardware refresh, platform consolidation, storage growth, lifecycle risk, and cost optimization.
- Participate in change management, project planning, vendor coordination as required.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and perform scheduled after-hours maintenance activities as required.
- Travel as required between other sites around Montreal area
- Administer and enhance enterprise monitoring, alerting, and observability platforms to ensure proactive detection and remediation of issues.
- Serve as the senior escalation point and technical lead for server-related incidents and projects.
- Mentor junior administrators and provide technical guidance for complex system issues.

Must-have Qualifications
- Eight or more years of progressive experience in systems administration, infrastructure operations, or infrastructure engineering.
- Advanced hands-on administration of both Windows Server and enterprise Linux systems in physical and virtual environments.
- Strong Windows infrastructure experience, including Active Directory Domain Services, Group Policy, DNS, security controls, patching, and PowerShell.
- Strong Linux administration experience, including package management, systemd, storage and filesystems, permissions, SSH, sudo, patching, hardening, and Bash scripting.
- Experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu Server, or equivalent enterprise Linux platforms.
- Strong hands-on experience with at least one enterprise virtualization platform, such as Microsoft Hyper-V, Proxmox VE, or VMware vSphere.
- Experience operating critical production workloads across clustered and multi-site environments.
- Experience with enterprise backup, restore, replication, high availability, and disaster recovery practices.
- Advanced troubleshooting capability across operating system, compute, virtualization, storage, backup, identity, and networking layers.
- Automation experience using PowerShell and Bash, plus experience with at least one of Ansible, Python, PowerCLI, or REST APIs.
- Experience applying infrastructure security practices, including hardening, least privilege, privileged access, vulnerability remediation, and audit evidence collection.
- Ability to create and maintain technical standards, architecture diagrams, operational procedures, and recovery runbooks.
- Strong communication skills and an ability to lead technical troubleshooting across infrastructure, security, application, and business teams.
- Bilingual (French and English) communication skills required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Failover Clustering, Hyper-V Replica, Windows Admin Center, Azure Arc, or comparable hybrid-management platforms.
- Experience with VMware-to-Hyper-V, VMware-to-Proxmox, or other large-scale infrastructure migration projects.
- Experience managing hybrid infrastructure using Azure Arc, Azure IaaS, AWS EC2, or equivalent cloud platforms.
- Experience using Ansible or another configuration-management platform to maintain Windows and Linux systems.
- Experience with SolarWinds or an equivalent enterprise monitoring platform.
- Experience with Commvault, Veeam, NetBackup, Rubrik, or another enterprise backup platform.
- Experience supporting Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Citrix, Azure, or AWS integrations.
- Experience in regulated, controlled, or security-sensitive environments.
- Relevant current certifications such as Microsoft Windows Server Administrator Associate, Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate, RHCSA, RHCE, VMware VCP, Linux Foundation certifications, or equivalent cloud and automation certifications.
