The incumbent is responsible for maintaining the content of the LIDO system and the Notices to Air Missions (NOTAM) database, while providing assistance to flight dispatchers and pilots on flight planning and data integrity.

Responsibilities

  • On-site support on the operations floor and administration of Flight Dispatch.
  • Provide technical expertise to Flight Dispatch regarding inquiries in the flight planning database.
  • Maintain the Company's proprietary data in flight planning systems (LIDO) and NOTAM/crew alerting systems (Smart4Aviation).
  • Identify and resolve flight planning system issues.
  • Analyze, determine and add, modify or remove new or obsolete air routes, including routings to avoid severe weather.
  • Analyze, coordinate and implement new routing options in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
  • Analyze and adapt terminal procedures to ensure flight planning complies with Air Canada requirements and best practices.
  • Review the LIDO navigation database to verify compliance with air traffic control requirements and Air Canada operational requirements, and ensure requested changes are processed promptly.
  • Perform quality control on data managed in LIDO and on changes requested by Air Canada.
  • Maintain flight planning restrictions in LIDO as directed by stakeholders.
  • Review aeronautical publications and maintain airport authorizations in LIDO in accordance with the airport authorization procedure.
  • Keep aircraft-related data in LIDO up to date in collaboration with Flight Operations Engineering, regulatory services and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain dispatch remarks in LIDO.
  • Coordinate flight planning requirements for maintenance operations and Air Canada Jetz.
  • Analyze, track and communicate costs, initiatives and savings related to route planning.
  • Request, manage and modify overflight authorizations worldwide for scheduled and ad-hoc operations, including maintenance operations, ensuring they are validated, processed and reliably integrated into LIDO in a timely manner.
  • Provide air traffic control cost and routing choice data to the ATC Navigation Charges department.
  • Manage corporate and Class 1 NOTAMs in SmartNOTAM, including entering corporate NOTAMs and interpreting, validating and adjusting Class 1 NOTAM data as required.
  • Manage crew alerts in SmartNOTAM.
  • Manage operational flight plan remarks intended for crews in SmartBrief, including stakeholder follow-up and quality control.
  • Integrate and update navigation support content on the Flight Dispatch website.
  • Support the Flight Operations Training department by generating flight plans that align with training scenarios.
  • Acquire and maintain subject-matter expertise and provide ongoing team support in that area.
  • Participate in production testing and implementation of connectivity services required for system enhancements, including evaluating new or unused LIDO modules to realize cost savings and efficiency gains.
  • Participate in regression testing and user acceptance testing when new versions of NOTAM and flight planning applications are deployed.
  • Conduct regular audits of relevant databases to ensure proper quality control management.
  • Collaborate with other Company departments, such as Performance Engineering, Flight Dispatch, Flight Standards, the Route Manual and Flight Management System Production, Finance, Network Operations Control, IT and Information Management, Crew Scheduling and Air Canada Jetz.
  • Maintain relationships with government agencies such as air traffic control, Nav Canada NOTAM service and other data providers such as LIDO Frankfurt.

Delegated authorities

  • Maintain the Company's proprietary data in flight planning, NOTAM and crew alerting systems.
  • Interpret and validate source data for entry into the NOTAM system and perform quality control in the flight planning system.
  • Request, maintain and modify overflight authorizations and permits worldwide.
  • Coordinate flight planning needs among stakeholders, taking into account restrictions, authorizations and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma. Post-secondary studies in aviation, business administration or a related field are an asset.
  • Three or more years of experience in an operational or administrative environment; experience in flight operations is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

Experience and industry knowledge

  • Strong interpersonal skills; teamwork is essential.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize multiple requests with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to adjust priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work occasional overtime.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and self-motivation.
  • Knowledge of website maintenance is a valuable asset.
  • Demonstrated punctuality and reliability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.
  • Safety responsibilities: In accordance with the Air Canada Flight Operations Manual (560), the Air Canada Flight Dispatch Standard Operating Procedures Manual, the Air Canada Flight Dispatch training manual (562), the Integrated Safety Management System, the evacuation and workplace recovery process of Network Operations Control and Flight Dispatch, and emergency response procedures (publication 400).

Conditions of employment

Applicants must be eligible to work in the country concerned at the time an offer is made and are responsible for obtaining any necessary work permits, visas or other authorizations. Proof of eligibility must be provided prior to the start date.
