Job Summary
The Commodity Manager - Indirect Procurement is responsible for managing strategic procurement and purchasing activities for assigned indirect spend categories to support MHIRJ's operational and business objectives. This position involves developing and operationalizing sourcing strategies, evaluating supplier capabilities, and conducting competitive sourcing initiatives to ensure the acquisition of goods and services that meet requirements for quality, delivery, technical specifications, and commercial terms.
In close collaboration with internal stakeholders, the supply chain agent leads supplier selection processes, negotiates commercial terms, drafts and manages supplier contracts, and identifies opportunities to optimize costs, improve supplier performance, and create value for the organization. The incumbent relies on market intelligence, best purchasing practices, and sound business judgment to foster effective decision-making and mitigate supply and contract risks.
The Commodity Manager - Indirect Procurement is also responsible for managing supplier relationships and monitoring their performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations, service expectations, and operational requirements. This position contributes to the resolution of business issues and participates in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing procurement processes, governance, and overall purchasing efficiency.
Based in Boisbriand, Quebec, and reporting to the Indirect Supply Chain Manager, the incumbent manages complex procurement activities in key indirect spend categories, including Corporate Services (CS), Aircraft Maintenance Operations (ASO), and other assigned products, to meet the procurement needs of the MHIRJ group.
Your contribution as a Commodity Manager - Indirect Procurement:
- Establish and maintain strategic relationships with suppliers from a commercial and contractual standpoint.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop new sourcing sources and establish strategic partnerships with suppliers.
- Lead the development and operationalization of sourcing strategies for complex projects involving indirect goods and services, including drafting, negotiating, and managing contracts with suppliers.
- Identify, analyze, and implement cost reduction and value creation opportunities across all assigned product categories.
- Work in partnership with stakeholders to understand business needs and propose effective procurement solutions while maximizing synergies within the MHI group.
- Manage supplier performance and ensure compliance with contractual obligations, service levels, and business requirements.
- Support business stakeholders in managing issues related to supplier performance, contractual disputes, and claims, and lead related commercial negotiations as necessary.
- Ensure that procurement activities and contracts comply with MHIRJ policies, governance requirements, and contractual standards.
- Maintain purchasing governance records, performance metrics, and key performance indicators in support of BSI's procurement objectives.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities within procurement processes, tools, and practices.
- Share knowledge and best practices in procurement to foster cross-functional collaboration and continuous improvement.
Here is what is needed to succeed:
- You hold a bachelor's degree in business administration, law, supply chain management, or a related field.
- Proven experience in managing the full contract lifecycle, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, signing, and administering commercial contracts and supplier agreements;
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, indirect procurement, and contract management covering multiple categories of indirect goods and services, preferably within a multinational organization;
- Experience collaborating with global suppliers and in international procurement activities is considered an asset;
- Experience in the aerospace industry and/or in a manufacturing environment is considered a major asset;
- Demonstrated expertise in supplier negotiations, commercial agreements, and contract management, combined with a strong business and legal acumen;
- Proven track record in implementing initiatives aimed at sustainable cost reduction, value creation, and improved supplier performance;
- Solid knowledge of procurement and category management principles, strategic sourcing methodologies, supplier relationship management, and financial analysis;
- Proven ability to manage complex procurement projects and lead cross-functional initiatives in a dynamic business environment;
- Experience in developing and presenting sourcing strategies, business cases, and recommendations to management and cross-functional stakeholders;
- Strong leadership, influencing, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a continuous improvement mindset and the ability to drive innovation and generate measurable business results;
- Strong organizational sense, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while respecting tight deadlines;
- Self-motivated, ability to work independently, and exercise good judgment in a fast-paced environment;
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), SAP S/4HANA or other ERP systems, as well as Power BI;
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills;
- Fluent in both French and English, orally and in writing. English is required for the position because the selected person will regularly communicate with colleagues, clients, or partners located outside of Quebec.
