Job Summary

The Aircraft Assembler/Fitter is responsible for carrying out assembly operations (mounting, fitting and installing pre-fabricated modules and subassemblies to build aircraft). Using technical documentation, manufacturing instructions in paper or digital format, and a kit of primary parts, the Aircraft Assembler/Fitter must perform, alone or as part of a team, the assembly of an aircraft structure, delivering quality work that complies with Airbus Atlantic Canada and customer standards and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret fabrication and installation drawings; plan and mark various patterns; cut, shape, assemble and fit sheet and plate metal parts or other forms used in structure and assembly
  • Perform all operations required for mounting, fitting, repairing, modifying and installing all types of mechanical, electromechanical and hydraulic parts and assemblies; manufacture parts and perform complex adjustments
  • Consult and interpret aircraft assembly diagrams
  • Manufacture simple aircraft structural parts
  • Install aircraft structural elements
  • Assemble and fit, from manufacturing documentation, subassemblies and structural assemblies of airframes and aircraft systems
  • Assemble and install mechanical parts and components on an aircraft
  • Mount, fit and install prefabricated parts or elements such as skin panels, flight controls, assemblies, hydraulic systems and other mechanical systems on aircraft
  • Set up and use manual or automated machines and tools as required for the work
  • Verify assemblies using measuring and inspection instruments against technical specifications
  • Ensure conformity of assemblies with manufacturing documentation through various control methods

Candidate Profile

Education: DEP in Structural Assembly or System Installation OR a minimum of 5 years' experience as an Assembler/Fitter in the aerospace field or a related assembly area. Successful completion of an assessment demonstrating basic technical skills is required.

Specific requirements:

  • Strong technical knowledge in structural assembly and systems installation
  • Proficiency with aerospace technical language and blueprint reading
  • Relevant knowledge of FOD management
  • Good manual skills and excellent dexterity
  • Good visual acuity
  • Attention to detail and precision, good reflexes, ability to concentrate (assembly or manufacture of high-precision components)
  • Analytical ability to quickly identify defects or other problems
  • Sense of responsibility (parts conformity)
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team (assemblers-mechanics, aircraft mechanics, other technicians, engineers)
  • Experience in the aerospace industry
