Air Canada's Tax team is undergoing a transformation and is rethinking how tax compliance is ensured through automation, data, and artificial intelligence. We are looking for a professional with a highly analytical mind and a passion for technology to help develop scalable, audit-ready tax solutions and to automate our processes.
The Analyst — Analytics and Automation, Tax Data will play a key role in designing and supporting automated tax processes, improving data integrity, and developing AI-driven capabilities within the tax function. This role aims to improve the accuracy, efficiency, and auditability of tax processes through data-driven solutions while ensuring compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
Process automation and transformation
- Contribute to the design and implementation of automated tax processes that streamline data ingestion, transformation, validation, and communication across multiple systems (e.g., Snowflake, Dataiku, SharePoint, Power BI, Microsoft Copilot assistants, Microsoft Power Automate).
- Convert manual and recurring processes into scalable automated solutions using modern data platforms and tools.
- Monitor production processes, troubleshoot issues, and continuously implement improvements to optimize performance and reliability.
Data and analytics
- Deliver actionable analysis by creating interactive dashboards and data visualizations to support tax decision-making.
- Understand enterprise data sources, their dependencies, and tax-rule implications.
- Analyze large, complex datasets to ensure data accuracy and completeness, as well as tax compliance.
- Collaborate with Tax, IT, and data teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and data governance standards.
- Turn tax datasets into actionable insights or recoveries.
Artificial intelligence and advanced capabilities
- Participate in the design, testing, and continuous improvement of AI agents and intelligent automation solutions, including contributing to their training on datasets, validating outputs, and refining business logic to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Develop and implement controls and monitoring mechanisms for AI-based solutions, including performance tracking, exception handling, and explainability, to ensure outputs remain reliable, auditable, and compliant with tax and regulatory requirements.
- Explore innovative applications of emerging technologies within the tax function.
Controls, compliance and auditability
- Ensure tax data compliance throughout the tax reporting cycle.
- Write and maintain technical and process documentation, including workflow logic, data mappings, and AI model assumptions, for audit purposes and knowledge sharing.
- Maintain and enhance reports on taxes, fees, and passenger charges as requirements evolve.
- Support implementation of new tax legislation and validate compliance with regulatory changes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in information systems/IT management, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or another related quantitative field.
- Two to five years of professional experience in data analytics or in systems and automation roles.
- Strong understanding of principles related to data processing, transformation, and reconciliation.
- Strong SQL experience (Snowflake) — stored procedures, writing complex queries, indexing, etc.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications and the Microsoft Power platform.
- Experience with Microsoft Copilot assistants and Snowflake Cortex is desirable.
- Experience with automation tools such as Dataiku is an asset.
- Python experience is a strong asset.
- Experience working with indirect taxes (GST/HST, QST, PST, excise tax and fuel tax) is an asset.
- Proven ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure.
- Self-sufficiency, strong interpersonal skills, and initiative.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Comfort working in an agile team that requires solving complex open-ended problems with minimal supervision.
- Proven punctuality and reliability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.
