Air Canada's Taxation team is on a transformation journey and is rethinking how tax compliance is ensured through automation, data and artificial intelligence. We are looking for a professional with a highly analytical mind and a passion for technology to help us develop scalable and audit-ready tax solutions, as well as automate our processes.
The Tax Data Analytics and Automation Analyst will play a key role in the design and support of automated tax processes, improving data integrity and developing AI-based capabilities within the tax function. This position aims to improve the accuracy, efficiency and auditability of tax processes through data-driven solutions, while ensuring compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
Automation and process transformation
- Contribute to the development and implementation of automated tax processes that streamline data ingestion, transformation, validation, and reporting for multiple systems (e.g., Snowflake, Dataiku, SharePoint, Power BI, Microsoft Copilot assistants, Microsoft Power Automate)
- Transform manual and recurring processes into scalable automated solutions using modern data platforms and tools
- Monitor production processes, troubleshoot issues, and continually implement improvements to optimize performance and reliability
Data and analytics
- Provide relevant insights through the creation of interactive dashboards and data visualizations to support tax decision-making
- Understand enterprise data sources, their dependencies, and their impact on tax compliance
- Analyze large and complex datasets to ensure data accuracy and completeness, as well as tax compliance
- Collaborate with Taxation, IT, and Data teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions, while ensuring compliance with enterprise architecture and data governance standards
- Transform tax datasets into actionable insights or recoveries
Artificial intelligence and advanced capabilities
- Participate in the design, testing, and continuous improvement of AI agents and intelligent automation solutions, including contributing to their training on datasets, validating results, and refining business logic to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Develop and implement controls and monitoring mechanisms for AI-driven solutions, including performance tracking, exception management, and explainability, to ensure results remain reliable, auditable, and compliant with tax and regulatory requirements
- Explore innovative applications of emerging technologies within the tax function
Controls, compliance and auditability
- Ensure tax data compliance throughout the tax reporting cycle
- Draft and maintain technical and process documentation, including workflow logic, data mappings, and AI model assumptions, for audit and knowledge sharing purposes
- Maintain and improve ticket-related tax, fee, and surcharge reports as requirements evolve
- Support the implementation of new tax legislation and validate compliance with regulatory changes
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems/Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or other related quantitative field
- Two to five years of professional experience in data analytics or in roles related to systems and automation
- Solid understanding of principles related to data processing, transformation, and reconciliation
- Strong SQL experience (Snowflake) - stored procedures, writing complex queries, indexing, etc.
- Strong Python experience
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite applications and Microsoft Power platform
- Experience with Microsoft Copilot assistants and Snowflake Cortex, desirable
- Experience with automation tools, such as Dataiku, a prerequisite
- Experience working in the field of consumption taxes (GST/HST, QST, PST, excise tax and fuel tax), an asset
- Proven ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure
- Autonomy, strong interpersonal skills and initiative
- High attention to detail
- Ease of working within an agile team that requires solving complex open problems, with minimal supervision
- Proven punctuality and reliability to foster overall team success in a fast-paced environment
