This is a key position within the Network Forecasting and Intelligence sub-group of the Commercial Planning team. The main responsibility of the team is to support and guide planning activities with science-based models and decision support systems. The responsibilities of this position include the calibration and optimization of sophisticated network forecasting models and related data, as well as participation in business studies and analyses. The successful candidate will report to the Network Forecasting Specialist.
Responsibilities:
- Acquire and maintain a thorough understanding of Network Planning and Airline Schedule planning processes.
- Validate and calibrate Air Canada's passenger demand dynamic allocation simulator against competitor airline schedules (NetLine/Plan).
- In collaboration with Network Planners, design and execute scenarios in our simulator to support Network Planning and Schedule planning activities; perform output analyses to evaluate the impact of schedule changes by Air Canada or other carriers on Air Canada's market share and profitability.
- Closely participate in initiatives designed to improve synergies between Network Planning and Revenue Management.
- Support the multi-faceted process of launching a new route, as well as various key network design-related activities, by providing passenger and market share forecasts.
- Provide sound business recommendations based on optimization studies using available tools such as NetLine/Plan.
- Collaborate with Alliances and the interline agreements team to evaluate various degrees of partnerships with other carriers.
- Design new management information reports or modify existing ones to meet the constantly evolving operational requirements associated with business decision-making on the airline's route network.
- Maintain the integrity of network planning tools and data:
- Generate and update input data for forecasting models, i.e. market demand, fares, schedules, and other data and baseline parameters.
- Integrate new data sources to improve passenger and revenue forecasts and explore these data sources.
- Establish and calibrate various model parameters to ensure good forecast quality and reliable scenario evaluations.
- Automate and document data management processes. Maintain scripts in Linux and Python programs for automation.
- As needed, liaise with external vendors as part of ongoing projects or day-to-day user activities.
- Stay abreast of and act as an internal expert on network planning methodologies and technologies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mathematics, sciences, statistics, economics, engineering or equivalent. Master's degree an asset.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and multitask while demonstrating a strong sense of priorities, always with a keen interest in accuracy and detail.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access preferred.
- Understanding of Python and SQL programming languages and other advanced analytical methods, a strong asset.
- Experience in processing and analyzing large, complex datasets, a strong asset.
- Knowledge of Sabre NetLine/Plan, Fleet Manager, or Schedule Manager, an asset.
- Network planning experience an asset.
- Good communication skills, particularly the ability to interact with colleagues from technical and non-technical teams.
- Knowledge of the airline industry preferred.
- Commitment to customer service is a must.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Very good team spirit.
