Position summary

The mission of the C5ISRT & Cloud Architect is to drive the technical vision and strategic execution for secure, scalable defence architectures. You will ensure that complex technical policies and strategic plans are well-defined, understood by project teams, and integrated with business objectives to deliver operational advantages.

You will lead the local development and deployment of Thales' Next Generation C2 solutions for multi-domain operations (Land, Sea, Air, Space, and Cyber) across Canada. Acting as a bridge between engineering, business, and customer ecosystems, you will capture operational requirements and ensure the Canadian technical roadmap aligns with national defence needs and the global Thales business line.

You will champion resilient, decentralized architectures for dispersed operational environments—ensuring data superiority, edge computing capabilities, and uninterrupted command and control even at the tactical edge or in contested environments.

Regulatory compliance requirement

This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List and/or the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for such access.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Visualize and design data-centric systems of systems of systems; develop system architecture documents and artifacts addressing functionality, performance, and cyber security as an integrated whole.
  • Work with the software team to prototype and develop C5ISRT applications.
  • Work with critical system operators to capture key value and pain points.
  • Identify, vet, recommend, and collaborate with Thales' partners.
  • Present solutions and designs to partners, customers, and internal stakeholders, including preparation of RFP documents.
  • Contribute to the definition and implementation of technical policy.
  • Contribute to the Technology & Innovation strategy by eliciting needs from business lines and aligning with Thales Group initiatives.
  • Provide coaching and tutoring on key strategic skills and techniques.
  • Lead technical specification definition and subcontractor selection.
  • Lead architecture practices (e.g., modelling, design, coding) within one or more projects.
  • Inform and influence key stakeholders to align with strategic direction.

Minimum requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field.
  • 5+ years in solution architecture with increasing complexity over time.
  • Demonstrated expertise in operational and capability analysis.
  • Product feature development & co-engineering team lead experience.
  • Strong background with public cloud and GDC.
  • Experience with data-centric security.
  • Experience with Command & Control (C2) and intelligence solutions.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in the development of robotic/autonomous systems.
  • Practical knowledge of AI/ML algorithms and multi-sensor fusion architectures supporting situational awareness and autonomous decision-making.
  • Familiarity with modern cloud computing frameworks & microservice architectures for scalable system deployment.

Special position requirements

  • Physical environment: Hybrid working—remote and on-site as required.
  • Travel: May be required to travel domestically and/or internationally to Thales and/or customer sites.
  • Security: Must be able to obtain and hold a valid Canadian security clearance and meet eligibility requirements of the Canadian Controlled Goods Registration Program and ITAR.

Compensation

The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and variable compensation target, is Total Target Cash (TTC) $125,000–$165,000 CAD annual. Placement within this range depends on factors such as career history, competencies, skills, performance, company salary budget, program requirements, and internal equity. Thales may offer additional benefits and other compensation depending on circumstances.
