Job Summary

Our team carries out research and development (R&D) work to meet the needs of the Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Projects focus on innovative digital solutions combining software development, systems integration, modern infrastructure, and generative artificial intelligence.

As part of accelerating our artificial intelligence initiatives, we want to develop a new generation of applications based on Agentic AI. These solutions go beyond traditional conversational assistants by enabling intelligent agents to analyze data, reason, make decisions, orchestrate complex workflows, and interact with multiple enterprise systems autonomously and securely.

We are looking for an individual to fill a Generative and Agentic AI Architect role to join our knowledge management team in Quebec City. Our multidisciplinary team focuses on data collection, transformation, and enrichment. Our projects involve defining and deploying automated processing pipelines to make data accessible to users. With the support of our data scientists, the team designs, trains, and integrates artificial intelligence models, including Generative AI (GenAI) based on large language models (LLMs), to improve data analysis. Our team also uses AI and machine learning (ML) concepts to increase analysis efficiency.

Essential Functions

The incumbent of the Generative and Agentic AI Architect position is responsible for designing and maintaining the architecture of an agentic solution taking into account various constraints, technological choices, and user needs. The person must have the experience and skills necessary to make the choices, recommendations, and pivots required to align the architecture and development roadmap with short- and long-term needs and challenges. This person must have good knowledge and mastery of the most recent technologies in the agentic AI environment including platforms, APIs, databases, and best practices.

They act as a bridge between business stakeholders: business analysts, end users: with UX designers, and technical teams: developers and applied scientists, in order to transform organizational needs into scalable architectures. This role combines strategic product vision, deep understanding of business processes, data architecture skills, and expertise in designing complex agentic workflows. This person assesses end-to-end needs and recommends ecosystems composed of multiple agents, tools, integrations, and orchestration mechanisms to optimize operations, user experience, and value creation.

The incumbent of the Generative and Agentic AI Architect position will play a key role in the design, development, and production deployment of intelligent platforms and applications integrating language models (LLM), organizational/business data and knowledge, and associated tools. They will ensure optimal maintenance and evolution of the agent workflows, data, and tools developed by various parties. The person holding this position will contribute to strategic projects aimed at improving operational efficiency, decision support, and the automation of complex processes in environments where security, reliability, and traceability are essential. This person must be autonomous, curious, and comfortable in a context where needs evolve rapidly. They will work with architects, developers, and artificial intelligence specialists to transform technical concepts into concrete, demonstrable, and scalable solutions.

This person is part of a multidisciplinary team. A strong team spirit and teamwork skills are mandatory. The ideal candidate is therefore able to demonstrate transversal skills that would facilitate the transfer of work done to all stakeholders involved. Consequently, good communication skills are required.

Responsibilities of the Generative and Agentic AI Architect:

• Translate business needs into generative and agentic AI architectures aligned with organizational goals.
• Design, maintain, and optimize solutions involving multiple coordinated AI agents, defining their responsibilities, interactions, tools, and collaboration mechanisms.
• Develop intelligent workflow architectures enabling the automation of complex end-to-end processes.
• Establish a plan and roadmap to allow the architecture to evolve to meet upcoming needs.
• Define the agent orchestration strategy, including decision, escalation, supervision, and validation mechanisms.
• Evaluate business processes as a whole to optimize value chains rather than solving isolated problems.
• Recommend technologies, platforms, and AI models best suited to functional, technical, and financial needs.
• Participate in defining the product vision and associated roadmaps for generative AI initiatives.
• Identify opportunities for value creation through the use of AI, automation, and advanced analytics.
• Design the data architectures required for the operation of agentic systems (DBs, data flows, Tools, APIs, MCP).
• Work with development, data engineering, and infrastructure teams to ensure the implementation of solutions.
• Establish performance indicators, success metrics, and tracking mechanisms for the implemented solutions.
• Ensure governance of AI agents regarding security, user access policy (RBAC), compliance, data quality, and risk management.
• Produce architecture artifacts, diagrams, process models, and executive recommendations for stakeholders.
• Participate in feasibility assessments, impact analyses, and effort estimations for AI projects.
• Conduct continuous monitoring of innovations in generative intelligence, multi-agent systems, automation, and business intelligence.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, data science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in information technology, solution architecture, analytics, or digital transformation.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in initiatives involving artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, or automation.
• Demonstrated experience in designing complex solutions involving multiple systems, integrations, and data flows.
• Experience in collecting, analyzing, and formalizing business requirements.
• Experience in functional leadership, architecture, or product management roles.
• Experience and knowledge of generative AI platforms, LLMs, and agentic AI: open source, enterprise, and/or cloud.
• Ability to design architectures composed of several specialized agents collaborating to achieve business goals.
• Understanding of unstructured data representation and search concepts using hybrid and semantic models.
• Mastery of agent orchestration, planning, reasoning, and execution principles.
• Excellent ability to understand organizational needs and translate them into concrete solutions.
• Aptitude to develop a product vision and define an AI solutions evolution strategy.
• Strong popularization capability with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Systemic thinking allowing the evaluation of a solution's impacts on the entire organization.
• Ability to define and measure business and operational performance indicators.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to influence strategic decisions and facilitate design workshops.

This position requires a good knowledge of English to interact, support, and/or provide services to international clients, employees, and/or partners as well as foreign government authorities who do not speak French.

Desirable Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in information technology, solution architecture, analytics, or digital transformation.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in initiatives involving artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, or automation.
• Experience in Business Intelligence, analytics, or data valorization is a major asset.
• Knowledge of the maintenance or technical support domain.
• Knowledge of the complex naval platform engineering domain.
• Knowledge of the defense, military intelligence, or Canadian Armed Forces context.
• Experience in creating or using business ontologies (Graph, RDF) in an enterprise framework.

This position may require the employee to set up equipment and conduct field experiments in an outdoor environment.
