The Centre of Competence for Optronics is located in Montreal - Levy Street. With an established international reputation for expertise in design, development, manufacture and support of sophisticated electro-optic systems.

Position summary:

Working in a Class 100,000 cleanroom environment and reporting to the Production Supervisor, the assembler performs tasks necessary to assemble, disassemble, repair, adjust, solder, desolder and inspect prefabricated components and electronic, electromechanical, mechanical, electrical and electro-optical boards.

Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, disassemble, repair, adjust and inspect mechanical and optical assemblies using instruction manuals, parts lists and mechanical and/or optical assembly diagrams.
  • Use various tools and fixtures for mechanical assembly.
  • Prepare, clean and install optical parts into metal and/or plastic housings.
  • Touch up paint on metal housings prior to final inspection.

Required qualifications and skills:

  • DEC or DEP in electronics or mechanical, or equivalent technical diploma from a recognized school in a relevant discipline.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow information from drawings, sketches, charts, tables, routings, procedures, schedules or other documents to perform required work.
  • Knowledge of reading mechanical and/or electronic drawings.
  • Good manual skills and dexterity.
  • Excellent visual acuity and good hand-eye coordination.
  • Familiarity with the use of various tools.
  • Meticulousness and precision for assembling delicate parts.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience in a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of French and English (written and spoken).
  • Knowledge of IPC 610 standards is an asset.

This role requires a good knowledge of English to interact with, support and/or provide services to international customers, employees and/or partners and to foreign government authorities that do not speak French.

This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, the Canadian Controlled Goods Program, the Canadian Industrial Security Program, the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for such access including eligibility to the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and able to obtain a Canadian Enhanced Reliability security clearance.
