As a member of the Corporate Audit and Advisory Services team, the Internal Auditor will support audit and advisory engagements focused on governance, risk and controls. Responsibilities include conducting audit and advisory engagements related to Regulation 52-109, operations and compliance in support of the risk-based audit plan, in order to provide independent and objective assurance to managers and the Audit Committee on the company's governance, risk management, compliance and control processes.

The role will focus primarily on performing and implementing internal control tests related to operations and compliance, and on reviewing processes and controls.

Key responsibilities

  • Participate in performing internal, operational and compliance engagement activities, including planning, testing and assessing the effectiveness of financial controls, and evaluating and tracking deficiencies and corrective actions with management.
  • Perform and document design control testing (project reviews).
  • Perform and document control testing for operational effectiveness.
  • Execute and update testing procedures.
  • Use data analytics tools to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the testing process.
  • Draft findings based on root-cause analysis and impact assessment.
  • Develop action plans based on practical, value-added recommendations.
  • Provide regular updates on the status of assigned tasks, opportunities or issues identified, and other project-related matters.
  • Identify opportunities to consolidate and improve risk management practices, governance methods, controls, asset protection, and internal reporting practices and procedures, and make relevant practical recommendations.
  • Support other areas of Corporate Audit and Advisory Services as needed, including participating in Regulation 52-109 activities, IT internal audits, risk management activities and other compliance engagements.
  • Maintain and enhance knowledge of Air Canada, its subsidiaries and the airline industry in general.

Qualifications

  • University degree in business administration or a related field, or a diploma from a recognized college.
  • Professional designation (e.g., CPA, CA, CMA, CGA, CIA or CISA) is an asset.
  • One to three years of experience in risk management and internal or external audit.
  • Strong commercial acumen and an understanding of internal controls and compliance processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write concise reports.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven analytical skills and strong planning and organizing abilities to manage multiple demands.
  • Airline industry experience and knowledge of its processes is a definite asset.
  • Valid passport and availability to travel (within Canada and internationally), sometimes on short notice.
  • Demonstrated punctuality and reliability to support the overall success of the team in a fast-paced environment.
