Position Summary

Thales has a vacancy for a Project Manager (PM) to be responsible and accountable for the delivery of the assigned project, its business rhythm and all associated governance aspects to ensure successful project execution. The PM must have highly developed communication and influencing skills and deep domain experience to deliver the project to schedule, cost and quality requirements and to the satisfaction of the customer. The ability to lead and motivate an integrated project team is key to success.

The PM will produce detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and regular status reports for the customer and Thales internal management for complex projects, which may include Firm Fixed Price and/or service-based contracts. The current scope is to deliver Asset Additions and Disposals under the Minor Warfare and Auxiliary Vessel (MWAV) In Service Support (AJISS) Program. The PM will engage with stakeholders across the Thales matrix organization and the customer community and will support Project Management Office (PMO) initiatives within Thales Canada Defence & Security.

Regulatory Compliance Requirement

This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List and/or the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for such access.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Plan, organize, lead and control assigned project areas and staff to achieve outcomes within delegated authorities. Establish and control the project business rhythm and governance.
  • Ensure Thales project management methodology and a suitable program management framework are used throughout the project lifecycle to meet financial objectives and customer commitments. Develop a robust, optimized project schedule.
  • Manage and track cost, schedule and technical performance against the approved baseline. Monitor/control WBS, schedule, risk register, scope change control, on-time delivery and EAC.
  • Oversee achievement of project performance objectives and indicators. Identify required support and resources with input from Resource Managers and stakeholders. Manage customer/stakeholder relationships.
  • Lead and motivate a high-performing cross-disciplinary integrated team by providing direction, coaching, support and delegation. Ensure robust risk and opportunity management and support work package leaders as required.
  • Promote Execution Excellence by identifying improvement areas and supporting PMO initiatives. Prepare Project and Estimate to Complete (ETC) reviews.
  • Ensure a "Lessons Learned" culture is embedded within the project.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Engineering or Business, or relevant proven experience.
  • Certified Practicing Project Manager or equivalent (IPMA and/or PMP certification).
  • Demonstrated experience in the engineering or defence sector for at least 7 years.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing complex projects or work packages in a matrix organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and analytical abilities.
  • A positive and energized attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven ability to lead and influence stakeholders at all levels within the organization.
  • Strong commercial and contractual acumen.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Defence Sector.
  • Experience across the Design, Delivery and In-Service Support phases of a project lifecycle.
  • Experience working in a complex, multidisciplinary, multi-site organization.

Special Position Requirements

Type of Role: Hybrid (Home/Office) – required to be in office an average of 3 days a week, may increase based on business needs and manager discretion.

Schedule: 40 hours per week.

Physical Environment: Office environment.

Travel: As required, primarily within Canada.

The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash $130,000.00 - $170,000.00 CDN Annual. This range is provided as a general market reference and final placement within the range depends on factors such as career history, competencies, skills, performance, company budget, program requirements, and internal equity. Thales may offer additional benefits or compensation depending on circumstances.
