The person occupying this position will report directly to the Director - Maintenance Operations Control, and will be responsible for the technical regulation of the aircraft of Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, Air Canada Jetz and Air Canada Cargo, in accordance with Canadian Aviation Regulations (CAR), subpart 706.

She will guide and direct the various Air Canada Maintenance groups, contract maintenance organizations and flight crews to ensure compliance with Air Canada Maintenance requirements, aircraft functional verification requirements, on-time performance rules and Air Canada's Maintenance Control Manual (MCM).

She will direct and manage a team of Maintenance Operations Controllers and Cabin Maintenance Controllers, who supervise the technical regulation of Air Canada's fleet to ensure safety and communicate the state of the fleet to Operations groups. She will participate in particular in the hiring and training of employees, the creation and implementation of processes for each team to ensure compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Main point of contact for Air Canada Maintenance, within the Operations Center, responsible for ensuring coordination with the Chief Flight Dispatcher, the Chief of Network Operations Control (SOC), Operations Control Chiefs and Air Canada Maintenance Planning in order to provide guidance to Line Maintenance or contract suppliers.
  • Represent Air Canada Maintenance during Air Canada operational calls to communicate the current status of aircraft and risks associated with downtime.
  • Act on behalf of the person responsible for maintenance outside working hours to remove aircraft from service if necessary if safety is compromised.
  • Manage a medium to high level of complexity and encourage autonomous decision-making to ensure that aircraft repairs are carried out safely, in accordance with approved guidelines and within deadlines.
  • Monitor aircraft anomalies, establish repair plans and prioritize the rectification of out-of-service aircraft.
  • Represent the Maintenance Operations team for MEL review and manage MEL extensions within the Maintenance computer program.
  • Manage aircraft return-to-service costs at B stations by coordinating transportation with SOC and Air Canada Maintenance in conjunction with the Grounded Aircraft team and purchasing department.
  • Prioritize major events or incidents, establish repair plans and propose mitigation measures in order to avoid repeated events.
  • Facilitate and hold daily operational-related conference calls as well as calls on out-of-service events. Conduct follow-up calls for complex grounded aircraft situations and gather the expertise and support services necessary for the rescue of out-of-service aircraft.
  • Review and prioritize maintenance issues during night stops in coordination with Planning, SOC and Maintenance Operations Control teams.
  • Give priority to MEL anomalies having operational impacts or resulting in operational restrictions and ensure the coordination of repairs between all stakeholders of Air Canada Maintenance for repairs.
  • Initiate and manage the flight permit process, where applicable, and ensure the aircraft can fly safely.
  • Coordinate ad-hoc maintenance at B stations for out-of-service aircraft, repeated inspections or incoming aircraft defects.
  • Ensure that accurate estimates regarding out-of-service aircraft are provided to the SOC and establish priorities for Air Canada Maintenance work.
  • Manage the teams of Maintenance Operations Controllers and Cabin Maintenance Controllers and ensure they are properly trained to perform their duties.

Qualifications

  • Possess a valid aircraft maintenance technician certificate. Maintenance license (M2) or avionics (E), or equivalent, with at least one active rating for any aircraft type in Air Canada's fleet.
  • At least seven years of experience in a management position related to an airline, Maintenance Operations Control or Line Maintenance.
  • Demonstrate managerial courage to make or question decisions.
  • Proven knowledge of programs and regulatory agencies (MCM, Transport Canada, FAA).
  • Ability to analyze aircraft failures (delays, incidents) and recommend measures to remedy them through recommended maintenance interventions.
  • Availability to work shifts and work extended hours on occasion.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to deal effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Proven leadership talent.
  • Good judgment and good sense of initiative in taking appropriate measures.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and reliability to support the overall success of the team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to guide people and give clear directions on technical issues.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • External or internal management development.
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, email, Windows).

Employment Conditions:
