The person occupying the position of International Indirect Tax Manager will be responsible for ensuring compliance with VAT and GST obligations for the EIMOA and Asia regions, analyzing new indirect tax legislation for the development and implementation of internal policies and processes, and analyzing and developing processes to maximize international indirect tax savings opportunities for the EIMOA and Asia regions and mitigate tax impacts.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure indirect tax compliance to ensure Air Canada complies with the indirect tax laws of the EIMOA and Asia regions, as well as other indirect tax legislation regarding electronic invoicing and digital reporting.
  • Manage requests from tax authorities regarding indirect tax compliance and support the manager in connection with indirect tax audits for the EIMOA and Asia regions.
  • Identify and continuously improve indirect tax-related processes and internal control measures.
  • Keep abreast of changes made to indirect tax legislation, analyze their impacts on Air Canada operations, and communicate these impacts to the financial officers of the business unit management.
  • Collaborate with the manager to implement appropriate changes to ensure compliance with new indirect tax legislation (including for electronic invoicing), and raise awareness among Company personnel regarding issues related to indirect taxes, notably through the development and delivery of related training sessions and seminars.
  • Communicate and collaborate proactively with the manager regarding the financial impacts of transactions, activities, new projects, and major changes.
  • Work closely with colleagues from the IT team and other network stakeholders to ensure ongoing collaboration with the Tax department for any new system implementation or system modifications.
  • Establish guidelines, training documents, and cheat sheets for the Tax department, as needed.
  • Support the manager in any other related tasks.

Qualifications

  • Degree in business administration, finance, or accounting, a preference.
  • Training in indirect taxes or a degree in taxation.
  • At least seven years of experience in the field of indirect taxes. Experience in the transport industry, an asset.
  • Solid experience in managing compliance with international regulations related to VAT, notably in the interpretation and analysis of tax legislation to prepare for future legislative changes.
  • Detailed knowledge of other international indirect tax legislations (e.g., GST, SUT), an asset.
  • Knowledge of air traveler ticket taxes, an asset.
  • Experience in system implementation, an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong team spirit.
  • Strong analytical mind and proven ability to manage multiple files.
  • Excellent aptitude for organization, autonomy, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Right to work in the United Kingdom without any restriction.

Employment conditions:

Candidates must be eligible to work in the country concerned at the time a job offer is presented and are responsible for obtaining work permits, visas, or other necessary authorizations. Proof of eligibility must be provided before the start date.

Language Requirements

Fluency in English, a requirement, and French, an asset.
