Air Canada is modernizing its application platform using cloud-native and service mesh-based architectures. The Technical Lead plays a critical leadership role in the design, operation, and development of our Red Hat OpenShift clusters and the Red Hat OpenShift Service Mesh platform. Responsibilities
- Maintain, configure, upgrade, and operate workloads deployed on our Red Hat OpenShift clusters.
- Install, configure, upgrade, and patch the OpenShift Service Mesh (OSSM) platform and its essential components (Istio, Envoy, ingress and egress gateways).
- Manage authentication and authorization mechanisms within a cluster.
- Ensure optimal observability of the OpenShift platform.
- Ensure the security and compliance of the platform, including certificate management, service mesh security policies, and vulnerability patching.
- Analyze and troubleshoot platform issues.
- Keep operational documentation, operating guides, and standard operating procedures for OpenShift and OSSM up to date.
- Interpret new and existing requirements and create solutions accordingly.
- Assist application teams in implementing best practices for deploying and operating services within the service mesh.
- Assess needs, identify dependencies and risks, and take action to resolve them.
- Optimize platform performance and quality.
- Identify potential issues within the platform and make necessary adjustments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand runtime constraints and requirements.
- Take responsibility for continuous platform improvement.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of teams and their processes by bringing new ideas and solutions and providing productive feedback.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent.
- At least five years of experience in platform engineering and software engineering; proven technical leadership skills.
- Experience in software development for enterprise services and applications, a significant asset.
- Solid hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift clusters in production environments.
- In-depth expertise in Red Hat OpenShift Service Mesh (OSSM) and its essential components.
- Excellent understanding of Kubernetes networking concepts, including ingress and egress traffic, service discovery, DNS, and network policies.
- Strong working knowledge of Linux environments, containers, and cloud-native runtimes.
- Proven ability to lead technical design discussions, review architectures, and define platform standards.
- Experience troubleshooting complex, multi-layer production issues involving Kubernetes, networking, and service mesh components.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills; ability to work effectively with platform, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), security, and application teams.
- Solid experience in developing applications using service-oriented, event-driven, and web service architectures.
- Knowledge of API protocols, specifications, and data formats.
- Knowledge of the Agile environment and experience with source control systems (GitHub, Bit-Bucket, etc.).
- Knowledge of the continuous integration, delivery, and deployment lifecycle.
- Knowledge of design and integration patterns.
- Ability to work effectively and achieve high-quality results under pressure and in rapidly changing or uncertain environments.
- Ability and desire to work collaboratively with other team members, both in person and remotely.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Interest in learning new technologies and understanding the airline industry.
- Demonstrate punctuality and reliability to promote overall team success in a fast-paced environment.

- Experience with AWS technologies, including ROSA.
- Experience with API management software.
- Red Hat certifications (RHCSA, RHCE, OpenShift certifications).
- Software development certifications.
