The Learning Designer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining effective learning programs that support Air Canada's operational objectives and align with our strategy to be recognized in everything we do as one of the top 10 airlines in the world. Reporting to the Head of Service - Learning Design, the incumbent participates in the full design cycle within a dynamic team, with the goal of producing detailed instructional design documents, storyboards, facilitator guides, and other learning materials.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Head of Service - Learning Design, Customer Service, and other stakeholders to determine learning outcomes and design learning solutions that follow adult learning principles and instructional design best practices.
- Use instructional design models, processes, and learning theories to develop effective learning programs that meet quality, scope, and outcome expectations.
- Manage the development of multiple initiatives and projects of varying complexity with competing deadlines.
- Define instructional direction and promote continuous improvement of learning solutions by designing and selecting end-to-end learning experiences that reflect adult learning principles, accessibility, strong user experience, and business relevance for both regulatory and non-regulatory programs.
- Keep learning programs up to date to ensure their effectiveness and relevance.
- Continuously familiarize yourself with key systems, functions, and management methods and support cross-functional training team initiatives.
- Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders and subject-matter experts, both internal and external.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the industry and a strong understanding of market trends to develop unparalleled learning solutions.
- Facilitate train-the-trainer workshops to ensure trainers are prepared to meet program requirements.
Qualifications
- Certificate or diploma in adult education or workplace learning
- At least three years of hands-on experience in instructional design
- Experience in the hospitality or airline industry is a significant asset
- Experience designing instructor-led, online, mobile, or blended learning experiences
- Ability to quickly understand systems and technical concepts
- Strong understanding of evaluation methods and demonstrated application
- Availability to travel (10% to 15% of the time)
- Demonstrated punctuality and reliability to support the team's overall success in a fast-paced environment
