Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Director, Legal Affairs, the person occupying this position will act as a strategic partner to the organization's human resources team and managers regarding all labor law issues.
The incumbent will provide practical and proactive legal advice on labor relations, employment standards, internal policies, workplace investigations, risk management and legal obligations applicable to the employer. They will also contribute to dispute prevention and the development of practices compliant with laws and best practices in human resources management.
The incumbent will be required to offer pragmatic legal advice, oriented towards the company's needs and adapted to a constantly evolving operational context.
- Advise HR teams and managers regarding daily employment and labor relations issues, including the interpretation and application of applicable labor and employment laws.
- Provide legal opinions regarding various files, including disciplinary measures, dismissals and terminations of employment, accommodations, management of absenteeism, disabilities and returns to work, psychological harassment and internal investigations, equity and respect in the workplace, and obligations related to labor standards.
- Participate in the management of grievance files, administrative complaints and employment disputes.
- Supervise mandates entrusted to external firms, including monitoring budgets, timelines and deliverables.
- Accompany HR teams in complex or sensitive situations involving employees or managers.
- Provide strategic and legal support during negotiations and participate in mediations, arbitrations and dispute settlements when required.
- Draft, review and update various documents, including employment contracts, HR policies, disciplinary letters, termination documents and internal human resources programs.
- Provide training to HR teams and managers on legal issues related to employment.
- Ensure legal monitoring regarding legislative and regulatory changes.
- Participate in the implementation of compliance measures and best practices in employment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Laws and member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec.
- 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in labor and employment law, acquired in a firm and/or in-house.
- Experience within a unionized company, in a highly regulated environment and/or in the airline industry constitutes an important asset.
- Strong drafting, negotiation and communication skills.
- Spirit of collaboration and business partner approach, diplomatic, oriented towards practical solutions.
- Excellent judgment and management of sensitive situations.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment, with rigor and autonomy.
- Excellent command of MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and demonstrated ease with collaborative digital tools and AI (e.g. Copilot).
- Oral and written mastery of French and English*.
*A good command of French is required for positions in Quebec. The incumbent will need to communicate frequently in English, orally and in writing, with colleagues, clients or other stakeholders, both in Quebec and internationally.
