The person in this position is responsible for maximizing, on behalf of Air Canada, the performance and contractual benefits of warranties. In addition, regarding warranty provisions and processes, they must act as a resource person and information source for all Air Canada departments.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the authorization of warranty claims and submit them to manufacturers and suppliers by obtaining, on behalf of Air Canada, technical descriptions of defects, corrective actions taken as well as details on the use of labor, materials or any other resource.
- Review technical documentation, including technical reports and instructions, service bulletins, airworthiness directives and maintenance and overhaul manuals, to determine if warranties apply.
- Forecast and manage a budget of $10 to $14M for annual warranty recovery based on upcoming events in the assigned sector, maximize warranty performance and support the industry to ensure the application of negotiated agreement terms.
- Manage weekly scorecards.
- Represent the Warranty group at various maintenance meetings (Mandatory Airworthiness Regulatory Embodiment Plan [MAREP], cabins), and act as a warranty expert.
- Collaborate with Commercial Affairs and Supply Chain Management to maximize warranty conditions during the negotiation of new contracts; prepare requests for proposals and major acquisitions (e.g. new aircraft, reactors, major support equipment, etc.) from suppliers.
- Monitor and approve repairs performed by external suppliers, in order to properly account for warranty rights.
- Be the point of contact for all warranty-related questions with Maintenance, Engineering and Purchasing personnel, to keep management informed of changes in contractual clauses and conditions.
- Follow up with suppliers and negotiate with them to maximize financial compensation. Negotiate objections presented to claims with technical arguments; negotiate warranty settlements with manufacturers based on technical merit or special commercial considerations.
- Review, recommend and implement new or revised methods, software and systems that improve processes to increase warranty recovery and savings.
- Liaise with Accounts Payable and Winnipeg Finance for the distribution of amounts recovered under warranties.
- Provide on-the-job coaching for team leaders, engineers and mechanics, as requested by each business unit.
- Review and verify warranty invoice information for work performed on equipment to provide justification for charges. Liaise with Winnipeg Finance and Accounts Payable when credits are recovered so that appropriate cost centers receive credits.
- Provide assistance and support regarding the status of warranty claims.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience
- Three to five years of experience in supply chain management, an asset.
- Ability to communicate effectively, present perception and engage Maintenance and Engineering personnel regarding the impact of recovered amounts and warranty savings on the Corporation's goals and objectives.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision. Organizational skills, discipline and motivation.
- Great talent for negotiation, diplomacy, discernment and high-level initiative.
- Team spirit, and ability to modify priorities as needed.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, to liaise with internal and external clients, and write clear and concise position reports regarding warranty and product support agreements.
- Knowledge of office automation tools such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of Line Maintenance, Airframe Maintenance, Component Maintenance and Engine Maintenance practices and procedures, an asset Knowledge of on-board systems, a definite asset.
- Knowledge of TRAX systems, an asset.
- Demonstrate punctuality and reliability to support the overall success of the team in a fast-paced environment.
