Position Summary
We are searching for a Project Cost Controller for a current vacancy on our team in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
- Provide financial support to the project(s) team(s).
- Represent Finance within the PMO organization and support Project Management for economic, finance and administrative tasks.
- Perform cost control, billing, and project financial management functions.
- Compile Thales accounting & internal control processes and deliver timely, reliable, and documented information and reports.

Key Areas of Responsibility
- Responsible for cost control and ensure compliance with company policy.
- Develop and prepare project budgets and contract changes.
- In collaboration with PMO, maintain financial budget and Estimate At Completion in Primavera; validate jointly with Project Management Office and Finance Manager to resolve inconsistencies and EAC changes.
- Prepare and validate with the Project Manager the monthly re-forecasting of Sales, Gross Margin, Cost Variance, Adjusted Gross Margin and Cash-in, ensuring timely integration into the monthly Company Operational Budget Review (OBR).
- Monitor project cash and liaise with the Company's Treasurer on project cash flow, foreign exchange exposure, hedging activities and customer cash collection.
- Produce monthly project reports (dashboard) and forecast data packages identifying major risks and opportunities, including actual cost validation, commitment cost validation, Estimate to Complete (ETC) validation and control checks; produce external weekly and monthly reporting as required; monitor actuals and budgets; produce external task forecasts of project burn-rate for level-of-effort contracts as required.
- Support the Business Control Manager in monthly Project Control Group processes — timesheet administration, monthly programmatic consolidation of all projects, and financial analysis; prepare project pricing and support internal pricing specialists on bids; support and provide timely project billing.
- Work on establishing overarching global project processes for improved monitoring and control.
- Perform special project assignments as requested.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Arts (major in accounting), or similar education and equivalent experience.
- 1–3 years of experience in large multinational or national organizations, in the Defence & Security sector or prior experience in project cost controlling.
- Experience working on projects and knowledge of basic project management and the project lifecycle.
- Knowledge of and previous experience with business systems and tools (e.g., SAP, Primavera and Excel).
Special Position Requirements
- Schedule: 40 hours per week. Hybrid position — a mix of working from home and office.
- Travel: Occasional domestic travel.
Compensation
The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between $56,000 - $80,000 - $104,000 Total Target Cash (TTC) CAD annually. This reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs; final placement within the range depends on factors such as the employee's career history, competencies, skills and performance, the company's annual salary budget, the customer's program requirements, and internal equity. Thales may offer additional benefits and other compensation depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's protected status under local, state, or federal law.
