An interesting opportunity for a Financial Controller has arisen in our Montreal facilities. The Financial Controller will have overall accountability for the integrity of the financial results of the Rolls-Royce Canada Limited statutory legal entity and will ensure the operation of a robust financial control environment.

The Financial Controller will provide financial leadership, working in close collaboration with colleagues from other functional areas to proactively drive business performance and influence strategic direction. The Financial Controller is also accountable for the effectiveness of the Commercial, Tax, Legal and Indirect Purchasing functions and is a key player involved in the IT and Export Control activities.

The Financial Controller reports into the President of Rolls-Royce Canada and has a dotted line report into the Senior Finance Business Partner, Business Aviation, and also sits on the Rolls-Royce Canada board of directors.

You must be available to work at least 3 days a week at the Lachine office to support training, operational efficiency and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be an integral and credible member of the leadership team, creating value by improving the quality of decisions and ensuring the chosen business strategies deliver the highest financial benefit.
  • Be accountable for financial accounting of all Rolls-Royce Canada business units, governance and integrity of internal and external financial reporting, ensuring compliance with company policy and external accounting standards. This includes results and variance analysis, headcount, external and internal audits, and ad-hoc analysis.
  • Be accountable for the planning, budgeting and forecasting processes in accordance with the company requirements (5YP, QFs, cost rate calculations and related analysis, determination of cost centres annual budget).
  • Be accountable for the operation of a strong financial control environment to protect Rolls-Royce Canada's assets.
  • Regularly review financial performance against plans and latest forecast, working with the leadership team to analyse financial variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Apply Board Delegated Authorities, risk management and internal control standards for transactional processes.
  • Proactively identify risks and issues that may impact financial statements.
  • Support the resolution of queries and accounting issues raised by internal and external auditors.
  • Ensure changes to the compliance framework, tax, regulation and transfer pricing requirements are implemented.
  • Manage the capital planning process including review and buy-off of capital schemes, establishing and/or validating appropriate business cases and ensuring fixed asset verification and post implementation reviews (PIRs) take place, when applicable.
  • Manage foreign exchange exposure by minimising the effect of exchange rate fluctuations on profitability, cash flow and competitiveness by following Group hedging policy.
  • Be accountable for development of financial systems and structural changes to improve the quality and effectiveness of reporting.
  • Develop, manage and coach the team.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation or similar relevant designation required
  • 8 to 12 years of experience in reporting and financial accounting in a manufacturing environment
  • Language: fluency in French and English, written and spoken
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada

Skills

  • Strong track record in financial planning, forecasting, cost control, and reporting
  • Experience within Financial Controllership and Accounting to a senior level
  • Experience of implementing and maintaining a robust financial control environment
  • Strong experience of operating a financial close process
  • Experience of senior stakeholder engagement (internal and external)
  • Strong track record of driving business performance
