We are seeking a Software Developer - Automation Testing to help accelerate the adoption of intelligent automation testing across Air Canada's IT, Data and Digital Solutions teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for integrating automation solutions and frameworks provided by Air Canada's Quality Management Office into delivery pipelines, executing quality assurance processes, and providing leadership and mentorship to delivery teams on all aspects of quality assurance.
This role reports to a Quality Assurance Lead within the Quality Management Office and will ensure alignment with enterprise quality standards and governance.
Responsibilities
- Integrate automation frameworks and tools developed by the Quality Management Office and the Centre of Excellence into project delivery teams and pipelines.
- Execute and enforce quality assurance processes within delivery teams, ensuring alignment with company standards and best practices.
- Act as a subject-matter expert in quality assurance within delivery teams, overseeing test planning and execution, defect management, and reporting.
- Customize and extend automation solutions provided by the Centre of Excellence to meet specific application and platform needs.
- Collaborate with developers, test teams, and DevOps teams to integrate automation into the software development lifecycle.
- Promote shift-left testing and early defect detection.
- Provide mentoring and guidance to delivery teams on QA strategy, use of automation, testing techniques, and quality metrics.
- Own CI/CD pipelines and continuous testing using tools that meet enterprise standards.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators to measure automation adoption, test coverage, defect leakage, and overall quality effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with internal QA governance, safety and IT policies, and external regulatory standards.
- Ensure accessibility test coverage is included in QA plans and automation suites, in accordance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Air Canada's accessibility standards.
- Collaborate with accessibility specialists and developers to validate inclusive design and usability.
- Deliver training sessions and workshops to build automation and QA capabilities across IT.
- Support test data management and environment setup for automated and manual test execution.
- Analyze test results and provide actionable insights to improve product quality and delivery confidence.
- Liaise between delivery teams and the Quality Management Office to ensure feedback loops and continuous improvement.
- Participate in release readiness reviews and make approval or rejection recommendations based on quality metrics and risk assessments.
- Provide regular updates and reports to the Quality Assurance Lead of the Quality Management Office on QA health, risks, accessibility coverage, and improvement opportunities.
Technical requirements
Enterprise QA platforms
- Experience with JIRA, Confluence, Xray, ACATS (Air Canada test automation systems), and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
Automation frameworks
- Hands-on expertise with BDD frameworks, Selenium, Playwright, Cypress and Gherkin. Familiarity with Cursor IDE or similar AI-assisted automation tools.
Cloud platforms
- Proficiency with AWS and Azure services, including Bedrock, OpenSearch and virtual private cloud isolation. Experience with managed cloud services for scalability, security and compliance.
Cross-platform testing
- Ability to automate and execute tests across web, mobile, desktop, SAP, STI and API platforms. Use of BrowserStack or similar cloud execution platforms.
Accessibility and UX testing
- Use of accessibility testing tools (axe-core, Lighthouse, Jaws, WAVE) and ensuring coverage of WCAG and Air Canada accessibility standards.
Non-functional testing
- Experience with performance testing (JMeter, Gatling), security and vulnerability analysis, network simulation and service virtualization. Diagnostics and monitoring using logs and real-time metrics.
Test data management and data quality
- Experience with test data management (TDM), data masking, anonymization and compliance (GDPR, PCI). Integration with Delphix or similar TDM platforms.
Data QA requirements
- Experience with ETL projects, cloud platforms (Azure/AWS), Azure Databricks, ADLS API, SQL, and automation of ETL processes.
AI and agent frameworks
- Familiarity with AI-driven test case generation, anomaly management, root cause analysis and self-healing automation. Understanding of large language models (LLMs), vector databases and AI assurance models.
Reporting and dashboards
- Ability to work with automated dashboards, monthly scorecards and executive reporting tools.
Qualifications
- University degree in a related field (computer science, software engineering, information technology, etc.).
- At least three to five years of experience in software testing, automation and QA leadership.
- Strong programming skills in Java, Python or JavaScript.
- Experience defining automation strategies, establishing KPIs and continuous improvement.
- Proven experience designing and implementing automation frameworks across multiple platforms (web, mobile, API).
- Passion for performance debugging and benchmarking.
- Experience working in teams, including remote and cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and mentoring experience.
- Proven punctuality and reliability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.
Additional qualifications
- Certifications (preferred): ISTQB, Agile/DevOps, AWS, Microsoft Azure, or certifications specific to automation and AI.
Employment conditions
