About the role
The candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team environment working across the full software engineering lifecycle including requirements, design, development, integration and testing, deployment, maintenance and field troubleshooting related to large, highly complex naval platform systems, with an emphasis on the Combat Management System (CMS).
The candidate will participate in engineering activities that may include, but are not limited to:
- Analysis and review of software requirements
- Analysis and review of software design
- Software development, primarily using Java (including new development and modification of existing software)
- Unit testing and documentation
- Integration and implementation
- Troubleshooting
- Working in an Agile team environment
What you bring to the role
- Degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering or a related field
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming concepts in Java
- 0 to 3 years of Java development experience
- Ability to obtain NATO Secret security clearance in a timely manner
Additional desired skills
- Knowledge of Java programming
- Familiarity with engineering processes and software requirements
- Knowledge of Agile/Scrum software development practices
- Familiarity with Unified Modeling Language (UML)
- Familiarity with the Linux operational environment
- Experience with the Eclipse integrated development environment (IDE)
- Familiarity with software version control tools (e.g., Git, SVN)
- Knowledge of recognized systems and software engineering processes
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to plan, schedule and prioritize work
- Ability to solve difficult problems within a team environment
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English
- Knowledge of German or Portuguese is considered an asset
- A valid security clearance (Secret) is an asset
Language requirements (Quebec)
Knowledge of English is required for this position so the candidate can perform all job functions. The role requires daily communication with a virtual team outside Quebec. The candidate will also communicate with various members of the organization, clients and suppliers located outside Canada. For engineering positions, the candidate must also be able to read or modify technical documents from our major clients and produce technical documents for those clients.
