The successful candidate for this position leads and manages Air Canada's Line Maintenance activities for the West. Their responsibilities are vast and complex and, overall, involve coordinating and managing the maintenance activities necessary to ensure the safety and good serviceability of aircraft so that they meet operational requirements while respecting the high airworthiness standards of Transport Canada and the company.

The person is responsible for managing the resources that meet the workload and the Air Operations Program through key objectives, improving station performance and productivity, and reducing out-of-service hours. These responsibilities include financial analysis and performance management of the Western base maintenance operations. The successful candidate is also responsible for the subsequent development of solutions and the identification of opportunities to improve the region's operational and financial performance. They must maintain and develop the qualification level, training, and competence of Line Maintenance personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise the financial and performance aspects of contract maintenance for all clients supported by Air Canada in Western stations.
  • Ensure that company safety standards are maintained and respected to protect employees and assets.
  • Improve productivity and efficiency so that all planned maintenance work in the West is executed.
  • Ensure that Western stations have the necessary person-hours, skills, and tooling to perform assigned daily planned maintenance tasks.
  • Manage and control the budget costs and revenues of Line Maintenance for all Western stations.
  • Supervise all maintenance activities, including support from third-party maintenance providers and the Grounded Aircraft Service.
  • Manage, plan, and control ongoing aircraft maintenance activities.
  • Supervise the upkeep and development of the qualifications, skills, and training of teams at each Western station.
  • Take responsibility for aircraft visits and schedules; ensure punctuality targets are met for all Western stations.
  • Take responsibility for the continuous improvement of maintenance processes for the region and create meaningful performance metrics.
  • Effectively communicate expectations regarding workload requirements for the performance of planned maintenance work with respect to priorities 1, 2, and 3.
  • Take responsibility for production capabilities by supervising the Operations management team.
  • Ensure the development of leadership skills of the Western Operations management team.
  • Lead and supervise the Maintenance administration team in the West.
  • Ensure that special cases, planned tasks, and irregular maintenance activities are completed to meet the needs of the Western schedule.
  • Ensure compliance with quality audits for all Western stations.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with Maintenance Operations Control and Fleet Management to resolve maintenance activity conflicts.
  • In collaboration with Real Estate, ensure that Western Line Maintenance facilities are adequate for personnel and activities. Handle Real Estate improvement and upgrade projects in Western stations.
  • Leverage relationships and influence Quality Assurance, Stores, and Tooling to enhance cross-functional productivity.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with Airports and ensure compliance with towing and service levels.
  • Stay abreast of current industry best practices. Drive change to implement new business tactics and strategies to reduce costs and ensure continuous improvement of Air Canada's Line Maintenance activities in the West.
  • Recognize, develop, and engage talent to achieve optimal performance and foster success.
  • Understand collective agreements well, maintain effective and productive relationships within the work unit, work with union delegates.
  • Resolve problems and disputes with tact and a sense of urgency.
  • Conduct effective and efficient meetings with managers.
  • Liaise with contracted third-party maintenance providers.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external clients to create and deliver quality products and services.
  • Provide supervision at YVR, which includes the capabilities of a major A station, including A visits, engine replacements, routine work, etc.
  • Provide supervision at YYC, which includes support for all fleet types, from single-aisle to wide-body aircraft, including A visits, engine replacements, etc.
  • Provide maintenance supervision at YWG, including facility and hangar maintenance up to A visits, engine replacements, etc.
  • Provide maintenance supervision for station B at YEG.

The individual will assume supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and procedures, and applicable laws. This includes interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding, implementing motivational strategies, training and disciplining employees, handling complaints, and resolving problems.

Requirements

  • University degree in a relevant field of study, or equivalent.
  • At least ten years of experience with a global airline, and proven success in all areas of responsibility mentioned.
  • Knowledge of a variety of industry concepts, practices, and methods.
  • Ability to rely on extensive experience and good judgment to plan and achieve objectives.
  • Ability to perform various tasks.
  • Ability to lead and direct the work of others.
  • Attitude focused on change management and more specifically on measurable results.
  • Ability to clearly communicate Line Maintenance objectives and communicate benefits to the company.
  • Knowledge and experience of planning and forecasting systems.
  • Demonstrated talent for project management and experience in executing large-scale projects.
