About the role

Lockheed Martin Canada Inc. (Lockheed Martin) is obligated to support individuals in tactical and operational training roles who are responsible for leading and overseeing the analysis, design, development, planning, integration, and delivery of training products and services within our current and future programs, both national and international, including professional training for naval warfare officers and senior non-commissioned officers responsible for the force generation of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) and other Naval forces.

In this role, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) will be employed to advise, develop, and deliver parts of Naval Operations and Warfare training in all areas of warfare, using synthetic simulators for the Combat System component of all support programs. This includes leading members of the technical training team while working with interdisciplinary teams and product teams, as well as key client stakeholder groups to ensure that the training solutions provided meet the high standards and specific needs of the client. The incumbent will also fill joint combat operations commander positions in the simulation environment, as needed. The incumbent will functionally report to local leaders, and technically to a coastal training manager as well as Integrated Product Team (IPT) training managers. The ideal candidate is proactive, dynamic, and motivated to shape training solutions through strong engagement with internal and external stakeholders.

To succeed, the candidate will possess a deep understanding of naval military operations, training requirements, and engineering processes, and will have the ability to deliver cost-effective and innovative training solutions to the client.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience

Responsibilities:

• Provide tactical or operational naval SME advice for the analysis, design, and delivery of training products and services to meet client force generation needs
• Support training planning and inter-program support for Lockheed Martin personnel
• Directly support internal and external stakeholders who are responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering individual Integrated Test and Evaluation (IT&E) events and collective training in simulated training environments
• Provide in-class instruction/mentoring to trainers and provide naval SME advice as part of RCN training requirements before and during scenarios

What you bring to the role

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate performance feedback to RCN instructors and trainees
• Lead continuous training improvement activities
• Support war commander role training in a simulation environment, as needed (based on prior experience)
• Support the RCN by assisting instructors in integrating their lesson plans and developing scenarios
• Provide support to training teams on both coasts, as needed, to achieve client priorities, which includes regular participation in virtual meetings and on-site travel when applicable
• Recommend realistic operational insertions to improve training effectiveness
• Support Lockheed Martin programming lines through SME advice related to software development and business expansion and customer acquisition processes
• Support Lockheed Martin programming lines through testing assistance
• Organize visits and conduct demonstrations of the client site, at the request of the Department of National Defence (DND) and Lockheed Martin
• Identify and report discrepancies, issues, and observations concerning Lockheed Martin deliverables to appropriate stakeholders
• Support training managers in planning and producing Agile work reports at macro and micro levels
• Share lessons learned with peers and colleagues across the organization
• Support the technical training manager in maintaining a proactive and mutually supportive relationship with our national clients

• Work full-time on client site with minimal supervision and following common Lockheed Martin processes, but determine when a change needs to occur and offer solutions to evolve processes

• Education level: Hold a bachelor's degree from a recognized university in a discipline related to education or business or equivalent experience/equivalent alternate training, with at least nine years of professional experience, or at least seven years of professional experience with a master's degree in a related discipline
• Naval experience: qualifications equivalent to operations room officer and/or warfare director
• Experience with post-operation visits to at-sea training personnel, fleet staff, warfare center, or warfare training establishments would be an asset

Required Skills:

• Extensive understanding of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) operations and the application of rules of engagement and in-depth knowledge of RCN interdomain operations
• Experience in the analysis, design, development, and evaluation of comprehensive training programs. Knowledge of the Canadian Forces Individual Training System and the RCN Collective Training System is required
• General understanding of CAF establishment and training processes
• In-depth knowledge of RCN warfare professions and training progression
• Experience with Lockheed Martin's Combat Management System (CMS) 330
• Ability to effectively plan activities, apply Agile processes, delegate tasks, and monitor work progress to ensure it aligns with planned program milestones
• Ability to instruct and mentor naval warfare officers and senior non-commissioned officers responsible for operations across a wide range of naval operations
• Relationship-focused mindset and a proven ability to support initiatives at the RCN director level
• Ability to summarize staffing needs, and collaborate with functional managers to identify, advance, and allocate specialized resources needed to perform technical work.

• Good knowledge of current and future RCN naval platforms
• Good knowledge of naval combat systems, including radars, combat management systems, communications, weapons, navigation, electronic warfare (EW), new technologies, remotely operated vehicles, and underwater sensors
• The Joint Command and Staff Program (equivalent to Staff College) and/or Canadian Armed Forces operational planning certification and/or Intermediate Leadership Qualification/Advanced Leadership Qualification are considered assets
• Good knowledge of the synthetic training environment and advanced training
• Good knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, and Microsoft Office
• Ability to work autonomously and proactively to meet the needs of the team, program, and clients
• Collaborative spirit to work effectively with senior client management
• Ability to innovate to bring new ideas and improve the program
• Adaptability to meet changing requirements
• Ability to communicate in French is considered an asset.
