Building Maintenance Generalist

Job Summary

Based on detailed instructions from the Operations Manager, performs maintenance work excluding housekeeping inside and outside the building of the Company THALES CANADA, DEFENCE AND SECURITY, OPTRONICS, at 4868 Levy Street, Ville St-Laurent.

Essential Functions

Performs tasks not requiring specific skills, such as replacing light bulbs or neon tubes, spreading salt or any other similar tasks. In addition, may be called upon to supervise or assist subcontractors, inside or outside the buildings, during a breakdown, inspection or equipment maintenance, when said tasks require particular competence. May be called upon in emergency situations to limit or clean up damage to the building or equipment pending repair or complete cleaning. Provides necessary assistance for setting up or modifying a production line or department and may move or install equipment inside the plant when required.

Minimum Requirements

Experience in a general maintenance role, building maintenance or in an industrial environment, an asset.

Ability to perform various manual tasks and use common tools.

Ability to follow precise instructions and work autonomously.

Good practical sense and ability to solve simple problems related to facility maintenance.

Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including internal teams and subcontractors.

Good adaptability and availability to intervene according to operational needs.

Sense of responsibility, reliability and concern for safety.

Knowledge of French and English (written and spoken).

This position requires a good knowledge of English to interact, support and/or provide services to international clients, employees and/or partners as well as to foreign government authorities who do not speak French.

Desirable Qualification

DEC or DEP in electronics, mechanics or equivalent or Technical Diploma from a recognized school in an appropriate discipline.

Good manual skills and dexterity.

Excellent visual acuity and good hand-eye coordination.

Physical Requirements

The position requires being able to stand and move frequently in the facilities, climb and descend stairs, work in different positions, handle tools and equipment, as well as lift, carry, push and pull material. The person must be able to work indoors and outdoors and wear the required personal protective equipment.

This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, the Canadian Controlled Goods Program, the Canadian Industrial Security Program, the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for such access including eligibility to the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and able to obtain a Canadian NATO Secret clearance.
