The Avionics office in Marie-Curie, Montreal is Thales Group's Centre of Competence for business and regional jet flight control systems. The team designs and integrates avionics suites, fly-by-wire flight control systems, SATCOM systems and other innovative concepts for the regional and business aircraft markets.

Position Summary

The EDM - Engineering Delivery Manager will be responsible for the engineering activities of a program to deliver a flight control system to one of our clients. These activities include design, integration, verification, validation, and certification of equipment and systems.

The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring the design and evolution of electronic hardware by both internal and external suppliers to Thales.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure the engineering team's commitments to the project are met.
  • Define the development cycle for the project's engineering activities.
  • Optimize technical work by consolidating the planning, risks, and opportunities for all engineering teams.
  • Plan and prepare quotes for development work.
  • Coordinate with and monitor suppliers for the design and evolution of electronic equipment.
  • Supervise the work of a team of system specialists.
  • Ensure that developments meet the client's technical and performance requirements and are completed within the established budget and timeframe.

Technical Authority Roles (may be performed by the manager depending on technical expertise)

  • Participate in specifying the system-level functionality of equipment and perform the necessary analyses to validate the design.
  • Ensure the standardization and reuse of solutions within the framework defined by the technical strategy.
  • Ensure that the equipment and systems developed by Thales and its suppliers meet the requirements of the certification authorities and produce the documentation demonstrating this (RTCA DO-254, DO-178; SAE ARP4754).
  • Present and defend the designs and certification documentation to the customer.
  • Provide support to the customer service team.

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree in aeronautical engineering, software engineering, embedded systems, or a related field;
  • 5 years of experience in technical project management; Experience in planning and monitoring engineering work;
  • Experience in the design and certification of equipment and embedded systems;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French and English;
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills

This position requires a good command of English for drafting technical documents, interacting with, supporting, and/or providing services to international clients, employees, and/or partners, as well as to foreign government authorities who do not speak French.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with aeronautical standards (DO-178, DO-254, ARP4754, etc.)
  • Experience with model development tools (SCADE, MathWorks Toolchain)
  • Proficiency in validation and integration testing (test benches, simulators, etc.)

Special Position Requirements

A one-week trip up to four times a year
