About the role

Senior Systems Engineer - Common IT and Network Architecture Solutions

Within the product engineering team, the candidate will participate directly in the design and development of product solutions that enable Lockheed Martin Canada Inc. to maintain its strong position in the naval market. As a systems engineer specializing in common IT and network architecture solutions, this role involves designing products that meet customer requirements, establishing supplier relationships, verifying the suitability of potential equipment, and supporting the development of backbone system hardware from prototyping through end-of-life.

The candidate must be able to take on a leadership role by demonstrating interest in new technologies, supporting work estimates, proposing improvements, conducting risk analyses, and overseeing design reviews to optimize systems and hardware design.

Key responsibilities

  • Analyze requirements, derivations, verification and traceability for an integrated system including hardware and software designs
  • Produce and/or review design artifacts for systems and hardware products
  • Produce and/or review white papers and market studies for systems and hardware products
  • Coordinate activities with procurement and liaise with suppliers to determine suitable products to meet system requirements
  • Establish, produce and maintain a BOM to help define equipment
  • Support the design and demonstrate that selected hardware solutions meet required performance and cyber-accreditation criteria (including operational environment, network, processing, storage, interfaces, protections, data and network security, storage architecture, middleware, processing usage, system configuration and management, metrics and optimization of technical performance, etc.)
  • Review market-offered technologies and industry/technology trends, including cost-benefit studies and prototype demonstrations. Define technology selection criteria based on required performance and lead cost-benefit analyses.

What you bring to the role

  • Holds a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field with a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience, or a related master's degree
  • Ability to communicate effectively (in French and English) with technical and non-technical engineering and management staff, as well as with personnel assigned to related tasks
  • Ability to solve difficult problems in a team environment
  • Exhibits a high degree of initiative and autonomy
  • Strong ability to learn
  • Ability to adapt and perform duties in a dynamic environment

Additional desired skills

  • Knowledge of requirements management for hardware lifecycle, from design through procurement and obsolescence
  • Familiarity with industry collaboration tools such as DOORS (Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System), Jira, Confluence
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Good knowledge of configuration management processes

Language requirements (Quebec)

Knowledge of English is required for this position so the candidate can perform all duties. The role requires daily communication with a virtual team outside Quebec. The candidate will also communicate with various members of the organization, clients, and suppliers located outside Canada. For engineering positions, the candidate must also be able to read or edit technical documents from our primary clients and prepare technical documents for those clients.
