Specific Job Description
As part of the product engineering team, the candidate will directly participate in the design and development of the best product solutions that allow Lockheed Martin Canada Inc. (Lockheed Martin) to maintain its strong position in the naval market. As the hardware systems lead responsible for the hardware architecture of our naval combat management system (CMS) for the German Navy, this position involves designing CMS products that meet customer requirements, establishing relationships with suppliers, verifying the suitability of potential equipment, and supporting the development of backend systems hardware, from prototyping to end-of-life.
The candidate must be able to lead project coordination, cost accounting, work estimates, and team execution, leveraging the Agile product design method. The candidate will also lead the team in proposing improvements, conducting risk analyses, and supporting design reviews to optimize system and hardware design.
Specific Job Responsibilities
The candidate will perform the following tasks:

  • Support for cost accounting.
  • Support for project planning and execution monitoring.
  • Development of estimation bases.
  • Analyze requirements, derivations, reconciliation, and traceability for an integrated system including hardware and software designs.
  • Produce and/or review design artifacts for systems and hardware products.
  • Produce and/or review white papers and market studies for systems and hardware products.
  • Coordinate activities with the purchasing department and communicate with suppliers to determine appropriate products to meet system requirements.
  • Establish, produce, and maintain a BOM to assist in equipment definition.
  • Support the design and demonstration that selected hardware solutions meet required performance and cyber accreditation criteria (including operational environment, network, processing, storage, interfaces, protections, data and network security, storage architecture, middleware, processing utilization, system configuration and management, technical performance measurements and optimization, etc.).
  • Review market offered technologies and trends observed in industry and technology choices, including business case studies and prototype demonstrations. Define technology selection criteria based on required performance and lead business case analyses.

What you bring to the position

  • Holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field with a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in the field, or a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience with a related master’s degree.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (in French and English) with technical and non-technical personnel from the engineering and management team, as well as with personnel assigned to related tasks.
  • Knowledge of earned value management.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft (MS) Office suite of tools.
  • Good knowledge of model-based systems engineering (MBSE).
  • Ability to solve difficult problems within a team environment.
  • High degree of initiative and autonomy.
  • High learning capacity.
  • Ability to adapt and perform functions within a dynamic environment.

Additional skills desired for the position

The following skills and certifications are considered assets:

  • Experience leading product development with Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Knowledge of requirements management for the hardware lifecycle, from design to procurement and obsolescence.
  • Certified Product Owner.
  • Certified Scrum Master.
  • Experience in project management and with planning tools like MS Project.
  • Good knowledge of Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS), Cameo, Jira, Windchill, and Confluence.
  • Good knowledge of configuration management processes.

Language requirements in Quebec

Knowledge of English is necessary for this position so that the candidate can perform all of their duties. The position described in this job offer requires the candidate to communicate daily with a virtual team outside of Quebec. The candidate will also need to communicate with different members of the organization, clients, and suppliers located outside of Canada. For engineering positions, the candidate will also need to be able to read or modify technical documents from our main clients and write technical documents for these same clients.
