About the role
The Naval Programs team is present at Lockheed Martin's main project sites in Canada (Kanata, Montreal, Dartmouth); job opportunities are available at all sites to support naval combat systems program activities and proposal capture.
As a systems engineer member of the subsystem of the naval development team within a multidisciplinary team environment, he participates in the full engineering lifecycle, specification, design, development, integration and testing, deployment, maintenance and field troubleshooting of the subsystem for which he is responsible, which is part of large-scale and highly complex naval platform systems. Subsystems are grouped by domain: Anti-Aircraft Warfare (AAW); Anti-Surface Warfare (ASW); Underwater Warfare (UWW); Electronic Warfare (EW) and Communications.
- The candidate will become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and a systems engineer member responsible for Underwater Warfare (UWW) subsystems, and will participate in engineering activities, including the following:
- Collaborate on system requirements establishment and market research activities with engineering and program personnel during the proposal capture development phase:
- Define or derive subsystem level requirements from customer requirements
- Participate in military naval industry surveys and the selection of potentially viable subsystem solutions that will meet customer expectations
- Evaluate compliance requirements, technical performance, and technical risk of potential subsystem solutions
- Recommend the right subsystem solution based on market research.
- Participate in needs analysis
- Participate in system modeling and design
- Participate in defining and monitoring technical performance measures
- Participate in system architecture and design
- Participate in system integration planning
- Participate in the creation of design documents
- Participate in verification and validation activities
- Apply systems engineering processes and best practices.
What you bring to the role
- The incumbent must hold a bachelor's degree from a recognized university in software, mechanical, electrical, electronic, hardware or systems engineering, or in a related discipline.
- At least five years of relevant professional experience with UWW subsystems:
- Sonar systems
- Towed Array Sonar (TAS), Hull Mounted Sonar (HMS), Acoustic Buoy
- Diver detection system
- Conductivity, Temperature, Depth (CTD), expendable Bathythermograph (XBT)
- Underwater Countermeasures (UWCM)
- Torpedo launch system.
- An equivalent combination of experience or studies will be considered
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel of the engineering and management team as well as with personnel assigned to related tasks
- Possess problem-solving skills for difficult problems within a team environment
- A high degree of initiative or autonomy
- A high capacity for learning
- Ability to adapt and perform duties within a dynamic environment.
Additional skills desired for the position
- Experience in the software, systems, hardware or maintenance engineering lifecycle
- Good knowledge of SysML or other object-oriented design methods
- Good knowledge of DOORS, Cameo, ClearCase, ClearQuest or Windchill
- Experience with Agile methods, JIRA or similar tools
- Experience in the military naval domain
- Experience in sensor, weapon or ship integration
- Experience in subcontract management or supply chain management
- Experience in change management, requirements management, testing and trials, security, safety, electromagnetic interference (EMI)/electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) or environmental qualification.
Language requirements in Quebec
Knowledge of English is required for this position so that the candidate can perform all of their duties. The position described in this job offer requires the candidate to communicate daily with a virtual team outside of Quebec. The candidate will also need to communicate with different members of the organization, clients and suppliers located outside of Canada. For engineering positions, the candidate will also need to be able to read or modify technical documents from our main clients and write technical documents for these same clients.
