About the role

The Human Factors Engineering team is located at the main sites where Lockheed Martin Canada Inc. undertakes projects (Kanata, Montréal, Dartmouth). Opportunities are available at all these locations.

The candidate will be a key member representing the human factors engineering team in a multidisciplinary team environment and will work closely with the client, the program team and subcontractors to provide human factors advice and support in the design of facilities and workspaces, workstations, subsystem equipment and graphical user interfaces.

The candidate will participate in engineering activities such as:

  • Contributing to the planning, management and coordination of human factors engineering tasks
  • Being familiar with Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban) and comfortable attending daily stand-ups, sprint planning and retrospectives
  • Integrating human factors engineering into all phases of analysis, design and validation in accordance with human factors engineering processes
  • Analyzing program and product requirements that affect the end user, and defining human factors requirements and guidelines based on human factors standards, ergonomic needs and operational/task needs
  • Being passionate about human-centered design and committed to staying current with evolving human factors standards, usability research and emerging user experience (UX) technologies
  • Developing a UI style guide for the product development team
  • Determining and analyzing end-user functions, tasks and roles to define operational needs
  • Working closely with product development teams to ensure alignment between concepts and technical constraints
  • Providing human factors expertise and support in the integrated and collaborative design, creation and validation of human-machine interfaces
  • Developing and implementing evaluation methods to test and assess product designs and validate compliance with human factors requirements and guidelines

What you bring to the role

Detailed role description

  • Assist the program team in conducting ergonomic, cost, schedule and risk trade studies to optimize product design
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities: iterate designs during sprints based on new user insights or technical constraints
  • Produce artifacts of human factors analysis, design and evaluation findings
  • Participate in technical reviews, regular team status meetings, design workshops and data-collection workshops in person and remotely as needed. Travel may be required.

Required skills, aptitudes and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science discipline and training or coursework in human factors
  • Five or more years of industry experience in human factors engineering involved in designing and creating graphical user interfaces or as a user experience researcher
  • Knowledge of performing human factors or UX work in an Agile environment
  • Ability to work closely with design, business, product, marketing and engineering teams to inform product UX strategy based on insights and keep users at the center
  • Experience in requirements analysis and functional derivation; flexibility to adapt quickly to changing requirements
  • Experience working with human factors engineering standards (military standard, ANSI, ISO)
  • Experience evaluating products against human factors requirements and guidelines and conducting trade studies
  • Experience evaluating human interfaces using modeling tools
  • Experience working with end-user clients to address and review design requirements, operational/task needs, product acceptance and verification
  • Excellent verbal communication skills; comfortable interacting with and influencing stakeholders
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently when required

Desired additional skills

  • Familiarity with DOORS (Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System), SharePoint, Windchill, Jira, Cameo and Visio
  • Experience in military or naval domains
  • Human factors engineering experience in the design and creation of workspaces and equipment

Language requirements (Québec)

Knowledge of the English language is required for this position so the candidate can perform all duties. The role requires daily communication with a virtual team outside Quebec. The candidate will also communicate with various members of the organization, clients and suppliers located outside Canada. For engineering positions, the candidate must also be able to read or edit technical documents from our primary clients and to write technical documents for those same clients.

$95,000 - $124,500
