Position Summary

We have a current vacancy for a Marine Surveyor to join our team supporting Royal Canadian Navy Non-Combatant In-Service Support Programs on Canada’s East Coast. The Marine Surveyor will provide project management and technical support to various Royal Canadian Navy non-combatant platforms managed by Thales under its in-service support contracts. You will work closely with LCMM, Engineering, and Service Delivery teams to plan and execute ship surveys and inspections, prepare survey reports, repair specifications and other technical documentation to support vessel certification and configuration management, and provide technical guidance for maintenance, repair and certification activities to maintain vessel operational readiness and compliance.

This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List and/or the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for such access.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Support planning and execution of Classification Society surveys, certification activities, and related compliance requirements in collaboration with the Thales Certification Officer and Engineering teams.
Plan and conduct pre-docking surveys, Annual Condition Surveys, and other vessel inspections, preparing associated survey reports in accordance with DND and Classification Society requirements.
Support development of docking specifications, work packages, technical proposals, and scopes of work to facilitate maintenance, repair, and certification activities.
Develop repair plans and technical specifications for hull, mechanical, and equipment repairs, and provide technical support for vessel certification and configuration management requirements.
Prepare and review technical documentation, baseline configuration records, and engineering work scopes for external suppliers, OEMs, repair facilities, and specialist service providers.
Identify opportunities for process improvement within Engineering and Certification Management activities, apply lessons learned from previous surveys and dockings, and provide technical analysis and recommendations for equipment and system issues.

Minimum Qualifications

A diploma in a marine-related technical discipline from a recognized technical institute, certification as a technologist or technician through a recognized licensing body, or equivalent qualifications obtained through relevant Canadian Armed Forces marine technical trades.
A minimum of eight years of professional experience within the marine or offshore sector, including at least five years of experience in vessel surveying, maintenance, repair, or certification activities supporting commercial or military fleets.
Previous experience as a Marine Surveyor with a Classification Society, the Royal Canadian Navy, or a comparable marine organization supporting vessel inspection and certification activities.
Demonstrated experience planning, managing, and executing ship dockings, dry dock refits, vessel inspections, and associated maintenance programs.
Strong knowledge of Classification Society rules and regulations (including Lloyd's Register, ABS, and DNV), and familiarity with IACS, IMO, SOLAS, Naval Ship Classification Rules, and Commercial Ship Rules.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare technical reports, develop repair specifications, and effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing ship repair, engineering change, and vessel maintenance projects within commercial, government, or military marine environments.
Experience supporting the design, testing, certification, and maintenance of shipboard lifting appliances, including marine cranes and associated equipment.
Familiarity with vessel weight and stability management, including weight calculations, lightship surveys, inclining experiments, and stability assessments.
Knowledge of applicable marine regulatory frameworks and standards, including the Polar Code and ANEP 77 (Naval Ship Code).
Previous experience supporting the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Coast Guard, or other government maritime organizations in in-service support for operational marine assets.
Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal; proficiency in French is considered an asset.

Special Position Requirements

Schedule: 40 hours per week.
Physical Environment: Hybrid position requiring a mix of work from home and onsite support, including office locations and onboard Royal Canadian Navy vessels at waterfront facilities.
Travel: Occasional domestic and international travel may be required to support vessel surveys, inspections, and other program activities.
Work Location: Combination of office-based work and site visits to shipyards, waterfront facilities, and naval vessels as required.
Transportation: Personal transportation is required to travel between home, office, waterfront, and shipyard locations.

The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash 92,000 - 122,000 CDN Annual.
