The successful candidate must have strong experience in data modeling and data architecture, and be able to work collaboratively with technical stakeholders and business partners to implement enterprise-wide data solutions. This role combines hands-on data modeling tasks, contributions to architecture, and leadership responsibilities.
The person will work with various data modeling methodologies, including integration data modeling, dimensional modeling, and Data Vault 2.0, and will contribute to the design and evolution of data warehouse, business intelligence, and cloud analytics solutions. They must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be able to translate business requirements into structured data models, and have worked in project-driven and Agile environments.
The person will participate in all phases of the data warehouse and business intelligence development lifecycle, support day-to-day modeling and data architecture activities, and ensure compliance with enterprise data modeling standards. They will also mentor others, manage standards, and collaborate with architects, developers, database administrators, and business partners across the enterprise.
Responsibilities
- Participate in and facilitate Agile and project meetings to assess, capture, and translate complex business requirements into data architecture and modeling solutions.
- Design, enhance, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models (including dimensional and integration models) to support enterprise data platforms.
- Design and manage dimensional models, star schemas, snowflake schemas, and Data Vault structures to meet analytics, dashboarding, and reporting needs.
- Consolidate and integrate data models to add new data sources and eliminate data silos.
- Ensure proper definition of referential integrity, data lineage, and source-to-target mapping, and ensure they meet business needs.
- Conduct reviews of conceptual and logical data models with product owners, data experts, and technical stakeholders.
- Write and maintain solution design and architecture documentation, including overall architecture presentations, detailed plans, and records of architectural decisions.
- Present and discuss proposed solutions to technical review committees and explain designs to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Support implementation efforts by providing architectural guidance and hands-on assistance to internal and external development teams.
- Ensure consistent application of enterprise data standards, conformed dimensions, and master datasets across projects.
- Maintain and evolve standards, methodologies, and best practices for data modeling.
- Implement, maintain, and upgrade data modeling tools (e.g., ERWIN), including onboarding new users and managing licenses and vendor relationships.
- Collaborate with enterprise architecture and governance teams to influence and adopt new trends and practices in data modeling.
- Participate in data governance activities related to data quality, metadata management, and information management.
- Possess the technical skills necessary to mentor and advise other data modelers to ensure consistency, quality, and adherence to standards.
Qualifications
- University degree in computer science, information systems, or another related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- At least three years of experience using data modeling techniques such as third normal form, entity-relationship diagrams, and dimensional modeling (star and snowflake schemas).
- At least three years of experience with data management standards and data modeling best practices.
- Proven experience designing enterprise-level data models in complex environments.
- Strong experience with relational, domain, dimensional, and integration data modeling methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with Data Vault 2.0 modeling.
- Experience in metadata management and its application to modeling and data governance.
- Advanced proficiency with ERWIN or similar data modeling tools.
- Deep knowledge of conceptual and logical data modeling and familiarity with physical database design and optimization concepts.
- Experience defining common standards for data elements, data types, and file formats.
- Strong skills in data analysis, data profiling, and reverse engineering.
- Ability to elicit detailed requirements to design scalable enterprise data management solutions.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with multiple business and technical stakeholders.
- Excellent measurement, analytics, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and effective oral and written communication.
- Practical knowledge of SQL for data analysis and data dictionary exploration.
- Experience mentoring data modelers and enforcing enterprise standards is an asset.
- Demonstrated punctuality and reliability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.
