The person occupying the position of Communications Partner - Community Relations is responsible for defining and executing the communication strategy for all Air Canada initiatives involving a common good component. Direct the integration of social impact communications across the company, ensuring message consistency, alignment with corporate objectives, and effective engagement of internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Assume responsibility for the communication strategy and narrative framework for Air Canada's social impact portfolio, including initiatives by the Air Canada Foundation, Community Relations, Partnerships, and Employee Engagement.
  • Lead the development and execution of integrated communication plans that support Air Canada's objectives, brand priorities, and common good commitments.
  • Provide strategic communication advice and messaging support for social impact initiatives, partnerships, campaigns, and senior leadership communications.
  • Act as the communications expert for Community Relations and Air Canada Foundation initiatives.
  • Represent the Communications team at key cross-functional meetings regarding Sustainability, Community Relations, the Air Canada Foundation, Corporate Communications, Internal Communications, the Brand department, and other corporate units.
  • Seek advice on media relations strategies related to social impact initiatives, and provide communication support during issue management, as needed.
  • Develop and execute communication strategies for brand programs and events, including the Air Canada Foundation golf tournament, Aeroplan Points Matching Week, Autism Aviation Days, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Foster employee engagement and awareness of Air Canada's social impact programs through strategic internal communications and narrative-driven approaches.
  • Lead the integration of social impact communications across corporate units, including Vacances Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, Aeroplan, Internal Communications, and the Brand department.
  • Provide communication advice and strategic support to external community and charitable partnerships.
  • Develop content and key messages for senior leadership communications, including newsletters, speeches, presentations, and stakeholder updates.
  • Plan, develop, and publish the Air Canada Foundation's annual impact report.
  • Contribute to social impact narratives, results, and content for Air Canada's annual sustainability report and other corporate disclosure documents.
  • Prepare and present quarterly communications updates to members of the Air Canada Foundation Board of Directors, including performance reports, narrative results, and year-over-year communications perspectives.
  • Oversee planning, governance, and content updates for the Air Canada Foundation website and other company-owned communication channels.
  • Participate in community events and activations to identify storytelling opportunities and lead content creation across digital, social, internal, and external channels.
  • Lead the development of multimedia storytelling resources, such as social media content, videos, staff communications, photos, and event summaries.
  • Manage multiple competing projects, communication schedules, agency and vendor relations, and stakeholder approvals simultaneously to ensure efficient and timely execution.

Qualifications

  • University degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, business communication, or a related field; graduate degree is an asset.
  • At least seven years of progressive communications experience, including experience supporting corporate social responsibility, community investment, foundation, or other purpose-driven initiatives.
  • Proven experience in developing and executing integrated communication strategies, campaigns, and stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Strong understanding of corporate reputation management, brand storytelling, media relations, internal communications, and social media strategy.
  • Proven professional experience within complex, highly matrixed groups and collaborating with cross-functional teams and senior managers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and storytelling skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences and stakeholders.
  • Experience managing social media and digital communication channels, including content planning, analytics, and performance reporting.
  • Sound judgment, project and stakeholder management skills, and the ability to balance multiple priorities and provide strategic communication advice.
