We are seeking a dynamic candidate who can provide informed, credible advice across all areas of labour relations, including interpretation of collective agreements and the Canada Labour Code, health and safety issues, arbitration and case law, to management and supervisors responsible for employees in the bargaining unit.
Responsibilities
- In negotiations, assist the Director, Labour Relations, in developing the Company's proposals and perform the required research and preparations in consultation with management staff.
- Assist management with grievance arbitration and in the administration of collective agreements and any other company policies applicable to employees in the bargaining unit.
- Maintain relations with union representatives to promote effective, collaborative labour relations.
- Prepare and deliver training on various labour relations matters such as collective agreements, the Canada Labour Code, engagement, the use of disciplinary measures, and effective conflict resolution.
- Conduct research on grievance, arbitration and negotiation issues.
- Represent the Company at third-level grievance and arbitration hearings.
- Assist in bargaining major collective agreements or act as the Company's spokesperson and lead negotiator in various collective agreement negotiations.
- Represent the Company before various external bodies (e.g., CCRT, ETCOF, DRHC).
Qualifications
- An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience in the field is required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong communication skills in English.
- Clear negotiation skills, sound judgment and initiative.
- Organizational skills and analytical ability.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure with minimal supervision; ability to handle a high volume of work.
- Willingness to travel frequently and to work extended-day schedules.
