About the Position

System Design Personnel – Integrated Communication and Information System
The naval programs team is present in the main locations where Lockheed Martin Canada Inc. (Lockheed Martin) carries out projects in Canada (Kanata, Montreal, Dartmouth). Employment opportunities are available at all these locations to support naval combat systems programs and proposal capture activities.

As a system engineering member of the subsystem of the naval development team in a multidisciplinary team environment, the candidate will participate in the complete engineering lifecycle including specification, design, development, integration and testing, deployment, maintenance and field troubleshooting of the subsystem for which they are responsible within large-scale and highly complex naval platform systems. Subsystems are grouped by domain of struggle: anti-aircraft warfare (AAW); anti-surface warfare (ASW); underwater warfare (UWW); electronic warfare (EW) and communication systems.

The candidate will become a subject matter expert and a responsible engineering member for information and communication systems subsystems, and will participate in engineering activities including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Lead system and platform integration activities for shipboard information and communication systems, including interface design
  • Participate in requirements compliance assessment and plan or coordinate requirements verification activities during the design and implementation phases
  • Maintain technical specifications and statement of work requirements
  • Collaborate with clients, the ship design team, subcontractors and other stakeholders to identify and resolve integration and installation issues identified during the design development of information and communication systems
  • Review technical data related to the design, organization, installation and verification activities of information and communication systems, provide feedback and recommend acceptance or rejection of delivered documents
  • Coordinate the synthesis of information provided by the government, the client and the subcontractor to support ship-wide design activities
  • Contribute to design documentation and deliverables
  • Prepare modification proposals based on data provided by the client and the ship designer

What You Bring to the Position

  • Prepare and submit or present technical modification requests for approval by the Change Committee; coordinate the implementation of approved modifications
  • Contribute to significant subcontract activities, such as fact-finding, kick-off meeting, design reviews, and product design and acceptance
  • Maintain system architecture and design
  • Apply system engineering processes and best practices.
Required Skills, Abilities and Experience
  • The incumbent must have a bachelor's degree from a recognized university in software, electrical, electronic, hardware, systems or mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
  • At least seven to ten years of relevant professional experience in communication (internal/external/SATCOM) and digital data information systems. Any equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered
  • Experience in software, systems, hardware or maintenance engineering lifecycle would be an asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel
  • Ability to solve difficult problems within a team environment
  • High degree of initiative and autonomy
  • Ability to adapt and perform in a dynamic environment.

Additional Skills Desired for the Position

  • Good knowledge of DOORS (Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System), Cameo Systems Modeler, Jira and Windchill, an asset
  • Experience with Agile methods, an asset
  • Experience in the military naval domain, an asset
  • Experience in sensor, weapon or ship integration, an asset
  • Experience in subcontract management or supply chain management, an asset
  • Experience in change management, requirements management, testing and trials, security, safety, electromagnetic interference of electromagnetic compatibility or environmental qualification, an asset.

Language Requirements in Quebec

Knowledge of English is necessary for this position so that the candidate can perform all their duties. The position described in this job offer requires the candidate to communicate daily with a virtual team outside of Quebec. The candidate will also need to communicate with various members of the organization, clients and suppliers located outside of Canada. For engineering positions, the candidate will also need to be able to read or modify technical documents from our main clients and write technical documents for these same clients.

Salary Transparency

Salary Range

$119,000 - $156,000
