ROLE OBJECTIVE:

The Chief Pilot supervises flight crew members, including pilots and flight attendants, to ensure the highest standards of safety, regulatory compliance, professionalism, and operational efficiency. This role works closely with the Flight Operations and Maintenance teams to support the smooth execution of flight operations while ensuring compliance with company policies and Transport Canada requirements.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and maintain safe and efficient standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring that, wherever possible, aircraft operating procedures reflect a high degree of standardization and uniformity across all operated aircraft types.
• Ensure that flight crew members meet the regulatory requirements applicable to their designated duties.
• Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and performance management to flight crew members to ensure the safe, compliant, professional, and uniform execution of their responsibilities in accordance with company policies, SOPs, the Commercial Operations Manual, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Prepare technical data relating to new routes and new aerodromes, evaluate their operational suitability, and provide the required training prior to their commissioning.
• Keep aircraft operating manuals and minimum equipment lists (MEL) up to date.
• Issue operational directives, notices, and bulletins to flight crew members regarding aircraft operations.
• Process, analyze, and follow up on mission, accident, incident, and operational event reports.
• Monitor the progress of pilots on probation and provide recommendations to the Director of Flight Operations regarding their performance and continued employment.
• Support the Safety Management System (SMS) as needed, with a particular emphasis on the flow of information.
• Ensure that all pilots comply with the company security policy.

REQUIRED TRAINING AND SKILLS:

• Hold a valid Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL), a valid Instrument Rating (IFR) for an aircraft subject to Subpart 4 of Part VII of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), as well as a valid medical certificate in accordance with applicable requirements.
• Hold a type rating on at least one of the operated aircraft types, where applicable.
• Possess a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a pilot-in-command on a commuter aircraft, as defined in paragraph 1.1.2 of the Commercial Operations Manual (COM).
• Prior management experience in a commercial aviation environment governed by Subparts 704 or 705 of the CARs is highly desirable.
• Qualified under the company's training program to act as pilot-in-command on one of the operated aircraft types.
• Demonstrate excellent knowledge of the Commercial Operations Manual, SOPs, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrate to the Minister sufficient knowledge of the Commercial Operations Manual, training manuals, standard operating procedures, the company check pilot manual (where applicable), and the regulations and standards necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
• A Chief Pilot qualified under Subpart 5 of Part VII of the CARs may also act as Chief Pilot for Subpart 4 operations of Part VII within the company.
• A Chief Pilot qualified under Subpart 4 or Subpart 5 of Part VII of the CARs may also act as Chief Pilot for Subpart 3 operations of Part VII within the company.
• Maintain a record free of accidents, incidents, or regulatory infractions.
• Demonstrate strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.
• Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in high-pressure operational environments.
• Demonstrate excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Display sound judgment, professionalism, and emotional intelligence.
• Demonstrate the ability to lead effectively in a context of change and operational complexity.
