Joining Air Canada means becoming part of an iconic Canadian symbol recently ranked best airline in North America. Launch your career by joining our diverse and dynamic team at the forefront of passenger air transport.
The top priority of an Air Canada pilot, whether captain, first officer, or relief pilot, is to ensure every flight is safe, while ensuring passenger comfort and punctuality.
A typical month of work for a pilot involves approximately 80 flight hours, as well as other hours dedicated to ground tasks such as flight plan preparation, aircraft preparation for departure, and post-flight reports. A workday can range from a long international flight to a series of short domestic flights. Pilots may also be assigned a reserve period during which they are "on call".
Air Canada pilots are based at one of our four bases: Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, and Vancouver. Priority for base assignment is given to pilots with the most seniority; therefore, one must be ready to relocate if necessary. Usually, pilots begin their career as first officers on domestic routes or as relief pilots on long-haul international routes.
