Description

This job posting is intended exclusively for pilots who currently work for our carrier Air Canada Express (Jazz Aviation L.P.) and who wish to apply for a pilot position at Air Canada. If you are not currently employed by one of these carriers, please apply for the pilot position for candidates who are not Air Canada Express pilots.

Joining Air Canada means becoming part of an iconic Canadian brand recently ranked the Best Airline in North America. Launch your career by joining our diverse, dynamic team at the forefront of passenger air transport.

The top priority of an Air Canada pilot, whether captain, first officer or relief pilot, is to ensure every flight is conducted safely while ensuring passenger comfort and on-time performance.

A typical month for a pilot includes about 80 flight hours, plus additional hours spent on ground duties such as flight planning, preparing the aircraft for departure, and completing post-flight reports. A workday can range from a long international flight to a series of short domestic sectors. Pilots may also be scheduled on reserve, during which they are on call.

Air Canada pilots are assigned to one of our four bases: Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver. Base assignment preference is given to pilots with the most seniority, so candidates should be prepared to relocate if required. Typically, pilots begin their careers as first officers on domestic routes or as relief pilots on long-haul international routes.

Qualifications

To become an Air Canada pilot you must meet certain basic requirements:

  • 2000 hours of flight time on fixed-wing aircraft

  • Canadian passport
  • Eligibility to obtain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
  • Eligibility to work in Canada and to travel without restriction across Air Canada's network. Obtaining any required permits, visas or other authorizations is the sole responsibility of applicants

The number of applicants far exceeds the number of available positions; therefore, preference is given to candidates whose qualifications exceed the basic requirements. Desired additional qualifications include, but are not limited to:

  • A college or university degree from a three- or four-year program
  • A college diploma in aviation
  • At least two years' flying experience with the Air Canada Express carrier you currently work for
  • Commercial or military flying experience

We thank all applicants for their interest. However, only those selected for further consideration will be contacted.

We are aware that third-party organizations offer coaching programs for Air Canada pilot interview questions. Air Canada does not endorse any of these agencies. We can readily identify candidates who attend interviews with answers prepared by such agencies and will assess their applications accordingly. We regularly change interview questions. Rehearsed answers are likely to result in a poor assessment of your suitability for a pilot position at Air Canada.
