Air Canada has the most comprehensive global network in Canada and serves 180 destinations across six continents. To support its extensive commercial network, Air Canada operates seven fleet types, ranging from the A220 to the Boeing 777. Air Canada pilots therefore benefit from unparalleled opportunities to command state-of-the-art aircraft to some of the world’s most desirable destinations.
Air Canada offers excellent career prospects for pilots. According to the most recent information, it takes three to five years to become a Captain - Narrowbody, with average salaries between $255,000 and $291,000, plus expenses. It takes 11 to 15 years to become a Captain - Widebody, with average salaries between $315,000 and $397,000, plus expenses. The airline also offers a comprehensive range of benefits, including a pension plan and an annual profit-sharing plan.
Air Canada pilots operate flights from one of our four crew bases: Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver. They typically begin their careers as First Officers on domestic flights or as relief pilots on long-haul international flights.

Qualifications
- 2000 hours of fixed-wing aircraft flight time
- Ability to meet Air Canada and Transport Canada medical and visual acuity requirements to obtain a Class 1 medical certificate
- Holders of a Canadian Airline Transport Pilot Licence, instrument flight qualification for multi-engine aircraft - group 1
- Canadian passport
- Eligibility to obtain a restricted area identity card (RAIC)
- Eligibility to work in Canada and to travel without restriction throughout the Air Canada network. Obtaining any permits, visas or other authorizations that may be required is the sole responsibility of applicants
Pilot applications far exceed vacancies. Preference will therefore be given to candidates whose qualifications exceed the basic requirements. Examples of additional desirable qualifications include:
- A three- or four-year college or university degree
- A college diploma in aviation
- Flight experience in a commercial or military environment
- Multi-crew jet or turboprop flight experience
