Air Canada offers its pilots excellent career prospects. According to the latest information, it takes three to five years to become a Single-Aisle Captain, with an average salary ranging from $255,000 to $291,000, plus expenses. It takes 11 to 15 years to become a Wide-body Captain, with an average salary ranging from $315,000 to $397,000, plus expenses. The airline also offers a comprehensive range of benefits, including a pension plan and an annual profit-sharing plan.

Air Canada pilots fly from one of our four crew bases: Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, and Vancouver. They normally begin their careers as First Officers on domestic flights or as relief pilots on international long-haul flights.

Qualifications

To work at Air Canada, pilots must meet certain basic requirements:

• 2000 hours of fixed-wing aircraft flight time
• Ability to meet Air Canada and Transport Canada medical and visual acuity requirements for a Class 1 medical certificate
• Holding a Canadian Airline Pilot License, multi-engine aircraft instrument flight rating – Group 1
• Canadian passport
• Eligibility for a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
• Eligibility to work in Canada and travel without restriction throughout the Air Canada network. Obtaining any permits, visas, or other authorizations that may be required (sole responsibility of candidates applying for this position)

Pilot applications far exceed vacancies. Preference will therefore be given to candidates whose qualifications go beyond the basic requirements. Examples of desirable additional qualifications:

• Diploma from a college or university obtained through a three- or four-year study program
• College diploma in aviation
• Flight experience in a commercial or military environment
• Flight experience with a multi-crew jet or turboprop aircraft
