The Avionics office in Marie-Curie, Montreal is Thales Group’s Centre of Competence for business and regional jet flight control systems is located at our Montreal – Marie Curie office. The team designs and integrates avionics suites, fly-by-wire flight control systems, SATCOM systems and other innovative concepts for the regional and business aircraft markets.

Position Summary

Reporting to the FLX Business Line and integrated into the PMO department, the PMO Montreal's mission is to support and lead the support for all projects in Canada, as well as to provide direct operational support to the various strategic offers and projects managed by Thales in Montreal.
The position plays a key role in structuring, coordinating, and monitoring project activities, managing funding, and maintaining budget, planning, and performance monitoring dashboards.
The incumbent fully participates in the structuring of new projects launched in Canada and ensures the best performance of deliverables, the consistency of budgets, and compliance with deadlines and reporting obligations, in a multi-partner and international context.

The Montreal PMO reports directly to the FLX PMO Manager, interfacing with Finance teams, Canadian Engineering departments, project managers, as well as project partners and stakeholders.

The Montreal PMO operates in a complex, multi-project scope, with frequent interactions between Montreal teams, the central French management, major industrial partners (aircraft OEMs), and Canadian funding bodies. The projects monitored include strong compliance and justification issues vis-à-vis public partners, as well as competitiveness and innovation challenges for structuring tender responses for the growth of Thales Canada.

Essential Functions

  • Support bids & projects:
  • Provide expertise and know-how to offers and projects for better performance throughout the offer/project life cycle through harmonized services
  • Ensure the validity of offer and project data, including supervision
  • Collect offer/project information and consolidate it in a dashboard for monthly reviews
  • Participate in the preparation of tender responses (Bids)
  • Support the implementation of new project activities in Canada
  • Act as backup for the administration of project management tools (Primavera, Deviprop, etc.)
  • Monitor internal orders (PO IGTR), ensure signature validation and invoicing follow-up in conjunction with Finance
  • Improve and maintain fundamental offer and project management practices (PPE):
    - Ensure continuity from offers to projects
    - Keep pace with offer and project milestones
    - Challenge and maintain the planning (adjusted to the project) and the quality of reference deliverables
    - Develop, centralize, and share know-how between offers and projects through best practices and recommendations
    - Collect feedback, manage the process for lessons learned analysis, and share transversally for the benefit of future offers and projects
  • Specific support for Canadian R&T projects:
  • Provide operational support for the extraction and justification of expenses to be claimed
  • Coordinate the collection and validation of justifications with Engineering department managers and the Canadian R&T manager
  • Assist with budget management, claims, and monitoring of government payments
  • Maintain and update R&T monitoring dashboards (quarterly reviews)
  • Cross-functional monitoring and steering:
  • Monitor and update schedules (Primavera, MSP, Timeline Pro)
  • Ensure milestone tracking and report completeness
  • Gather and consolidate key performance indicators for the portfolio (KPI, EVM...)
  • Organize lessons learned restitution and coordinate associated action tracking
  • Establish and monitor the non-technical requirement matrix to ensure customer compliance
  • Align S&OP workload needs with resources on offers/projects

The incumbent directly influences project performance within their scope (budgetary control, milestone adherence, deliverable quality), contributes to securing public funding, optimizing reporting for local and group management, while fostering the structuring and maturity development of the project organization in Montreal.

In close collaboration with the Finance team, project managers, Engineering managers, and other FLX PMOs, the incumbent demonstrates leadership in enforcing and monitoring project procedures and indicators. They also manage relationships with external funding agencies and industrial clients in a context of increased confidentiality and demands.

The position requires adaptability, rigor, and a proactive approach to continuously improve management tools, reporting, KPI tracking, and to meet the diversity of client/governmental requirements. This involves anticipating needs, structuring information, and daring to propose new avenues of analysis to increase project efficiency.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in project management or technical fields
  • Proven experience (3 to 5 years minimum) in PMO or complex project management, ideally in industry (aero, defense, tech) and an international environment.
  • Solid command of budget management, planning tools, and project reporting (Primavera, MSP, advanced Excel)
  • Experience with public funding/R&T projects
  • Multidisciplinary coordination ability, interpersonal skills, and diplomacy
  • Organization, responsiveness, ability to work cross-functionally
  • Project planning tools: MS Project and Primavera P6 Pro
  • Proficiency in Excel, an asset if Visual Basic macro skills
  • Quote generation tool (Deviprop)
  • Fluent French and English required (written and oral)

This position requires a good knowledge of English for writing technical documents, to interact, support and/or provide services to international clients, employees and/or partners as well as to foreign governmental authorities who do not speak French.

Desirable Qualification

  • Experience in an international context, knowledge of Thales and the aircraft manufacturer ecosystem appreciated.
  • IPMA or PMP certification is an asset.
