The incumbent comes into direct contact with the public and employees of Air Canada, other carriers and other agencies, providing them with services in the cargo warehouses, according to the Corporation's directives. Air Canada encourages internal advancement, and as a result, opportunities may arise for the incumbent of the position to act as lead Cargo Warehouse Attendant, as needed.

Responsibilities :

  • Accept and deliver cargo and mail while verifying the number of packages. Ensure the accuracy of related documents and the proper marking and labeling of the shipment.
  • Prepare and break down pallets, containers and bulk carts.
  • Load and unload trucks.
  • Store cargo and sort mail in the warehouse at appropriate locations, recording them as needed.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public, other carriers, agencies and Air Canada personnel.
  • Transport cargo and mail manually or mechanically (e.g. with a forklift).
  • Drive Company vehicles, as needed.
  • Deliver transshipments to other carriers, as needed.
  • Accept and process shipments of dangerous or regulated goods, in accordance with Company rules and government agency rules.
  • Perform weekly checks of mislocations and storage to facilitate the location of missing cargo or mail.
  • Ensure that damaged cargo or mail is reported correctly, in accordance with Company procedures
  • Maintain direct liaison with senior agents, coordinators and managers regarding daily operational concerns.
  • Keep up to date your airside pass issued by the British Airport Authority (British Airport Authority), as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with UAC online training.
  • Ensure compliance with online training offered by Air Canada University.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a cargo warehouse, an asset.
  • Ability to work under pressure, plan workload and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Tact, judgment and a strong sense of initiative.
  • Team spirit and ability to represent Air Canada in a professional manner.
  • Valid forklift operation permit.
  • Security training by the DfT (Department for Transport.

Conditions of employment :

Candidates must be eligible to work in the country concerned at the time a job offer is presented and are responsible for obtaining the necessary work permits, visas or other authorizations. Proof of eligibility must be provided before the start date.

Language Requirements

Good working knowledge of English.
