As a technical writer you will collaborate closely with stakeholders at all levels to develop user manuals, technical guides, process documentation, training materials, process maps and other deliverables that contribute to the department's objectives. You will ensure that all documentation is clear, accurate, consistent and compliant with the organization's documentation standards and guidelines.

Main responsibilities

  • Create, edit and maintain a variety of documentation, including user manuals, technical guides, process documentation, training materials, SharePoint pages and other operational deliverables.
  • Ensure all content is clear, concise, consistent and tailored to user needs while meeting high standards of quality and style.
  • Develop documentation in accordance with established templates, standards and style guides.
  • Work independently and effectively in a dynamic environment while managing multiple documentation projects simultaneously.
  • Conduct interviews and workshops with subject matter experts to translate complex concepts into clear, actionable documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders at different organizational levels.
  • Review and edit documentation to ensure compliance with the organization's and clients' quality and consistency standards.
  • Assess the usability of documentation to ensure process instructions are clear, actionable and easy to follow for intended users.
  • Ensure all content intended for operational teams in Quebec/Canada is accurately translated into French.

Qualifications

  • Degree in technical writing, communications, information technology, a related field or relevant technical experience.
  • At least 5 years of technical writing experience, ideally within military, program management or a dynamic operational environment.
  • Proven experience producing and maintaining diverse technical and operational documentation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both French and English.
  • Ability to work quickly, independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency with documentation and editing tools, including Microsoft Word, Visio, FrameMaker and SharePoint.
  • Experience with content management systems such as HiCo IPS Suite is an asset.
  • Experience with other authoring tools such as Arbortext and Oxygen is also an asset.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software, tools and systems.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of the S1000D standard.
