Important details to know

• Flight dispatch impacts flight success: You will play a vital role in ensuring that flights take off safely and on time by coordinating with pilots, monitoring flight conditions and managing operational control.
• Operations move quickly: Expect a fast-paced environment, sometimes under high pressure, due to evolving operations.
• Collaboration is essential, but autonomy is just as important: You will work alone most of the time, but your team and manager will always be available to help you.

Main functions

• Share responsibility for flight safety with pilots within a Type A operational control system.
• Develop, review, authorize and revise flight operation plans in collaboration with the pilot-in-command.
• Execute flight operations, assess safety-impact changes and communicate updates to pilots.
• Analyze operating conditions affecting flight performance, including weather, facilities and air traffic control.
• Ensure compliance with the aircraft operating manual, minimum equipment list, Flight Dispatch Manual and regulations.
• Provide pilots with the real-time updates necessary for safe flight operations.
• Maintain expertise of airports, runways, airways and navigational aids for assigned areas, including the Flight Dispatch Manual, Flight Operations Manual and Jeppesen enroute and airport charts.
• Communicate flight plan requirements to air traffic control services.
• Monitor and provide flight crews with up-to-date reports on operational conditions in the field.
• Collaborate with the duty chief dispatcher and Network Operations Control for flight operations and incident management.
• Perform tasks with a priority on safety, compliance and effective communication.

Qualifications

• Air Canada flight dispatchers must be qualified in accordance with CAR 705 and NSAC 725 requirements;
• Be at least 21 years of age;
• Have successfully passed Transport Canada FDOPS and FDMET examinations and hold a valid certificate;
• Hold a Restricted Operator Certificate - Aeronautical (ROC-A);
• Hold a valid passport;
• Ability to make good decisions in stressful situations;
• Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;
• Demonstrated ability to keep and follow up on records effectively;
• Ability to work under pressure without close supervision;
• Conflict and problem-solving experience;
• Good oral and written communication skills;
• Proficiency in PC applications: Word, Excel and PowerPoint, an asset;
• Post-secondary education, an asset;
• Experience in air transport operations, an asset;
• Punctuality and reliability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment;
• Candidates must be able to work shifts in a constantly operating environment, including mornings, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays;
• Ability to meet Air Canada medical standards as part of a medical examination.
