Detailed Job Description

As a member of the Product Engineering Team, the candidate will participate directly in the design and development of the best product solutions that allow Lockheed Martin Canada Inc. (Lockheed Martin) to maintain a strong position in the naval market. As the Hardware Systems Lead, notably for the hardware architecture of our naval Combat Management System (CMS) for international programs, this position involves designing CMS products that meet customer requirements, building relationships with suppliers, verifying the suitability of potential equipment, and supporting the development of backend systems hardware, from prototyping to end-of-life.

The candidate must be able to lead project coordination, cost accounting, work estimates, and team execution, leveraging the Agile product design method. The candidate will also lead the team in proposing improvements, conducting risk analyses, and supporting design reviews to optimize system and hardware design.

Specific Job Responsibilities

The candidate will perform the following tasks:

  • Analytical account management
  • Project planning and execution monitoring
  • Development of estimation bases
  • Analysis of requirements, derivations, reconciliation, and traceability for an integrated system including hardware and software designs
  • Production and/or review of design artifacts for systems and hardware products
  • Production and/or review of white papers and market studies for systems and hardware products
  • Coordination of activities with the purchasing department and communication with suppliers to determine appropriate products to meet system requirements
  • Establishment, production, and maintenance of a detailed Bill of Material (BOM) to assist in equipment definition
  • Support for the design and demonstration that selected hardware solutions meet the required performance and cyber accreditation criteria (including operational environment, network, processing, storage, interfaces, protections, data and network security, storage architecture, middleware, processing utilization, system configuration and management, technical performance measurements and optimization, etc.)
  • Review of market technologies and observed trends in industry and technology choices, including business cases and prototype demonstrations. Definition of technology selection criteria based on required performance and leadership of business cases.

What you bring to the role

  • Holds a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field with a minimum of nine years of professional experience in the field, or a minimum of seven years of professional experience with a master's degree in a related field
  • Ability to communicate effectively (in French and English) with technical and non-technical personnel on the engineering and management team, as well as with personnel assigned to related tasks
  • Experience in Earned Value Management (EVM)
  • Experience in project management and use of planning tools like MS Project
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft (MS) Office suite of tools
  • Good knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Ability to solve complex problems within a team
  • High degree of initiative and autonomy
  • High learning capacity
  • Ability to adapt and perform duties within a dynamic environment.

Additional desired skills for the position

The following skills and certifications are considered assets:

  • Experience leading product development with Agile methodologies and tools like Jira and Confluence
  • Knowledge of requirements management for the hardware lifecycle, from design to procurement and obsolescence
  • Certified Product Owner
  • Certified Scrum Master
  • Good knowledge of Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS), CAMEO, Jira, Windchill, and Confluence
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Good knowledge of configuration management processes.

Language requirements in Quebec

Knowledge of the English language is necessary for this position so that the candidate can perform all their duties. The position described in this job offer requires the candidate to communicate daily with a virtual team outside of Quebec. The candidate will also need to communicate with different members of the organization, clients, and suppliers located outside of Canada. For engineering positions, the candidate will also need to be able to read or modify technical documents from our main clients and write technical documents for these same clients.

Salary Transparency

At Lockheed Martin Canada, we comply with all salary transparency requirements and believe that publishing salary ranges for vacant positions can foster a more equitable workforce.

Salary Range

$119,000 - $156,000
