We are recruiting for our satellite systems team at our Montreal office. You will work with advanced electronic and mechanical technologies, planning tools and ERP logic, and collaborate with various program managers. If you are a natural leader energized by people management, this role is for you.
Role
The incumbent is responsible for the optimal conduct of test activities and for coaching the team to ensure products are tested according to standards, technical specifications and quality requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead multiple teams of engineers
- Review program requirements, assess constraints and resolve operational conflicts
- Actively work to improve production-related work methods and processes
- Advise program managers and senior managers on competing resource demands
- Assign production personnel according to the established production schedule
- Act as a coach: train staff and actively participate in developing their skills
- Serve as the primary point of contact for production employees
- Monitor and accelerate availability of resources, materials and operations while meeting quality standards
- Communicate relevant information effectively and foster team autonomy and efficient work
- Perform operational supervision tasks with awareness of the company's collective agreements
- Provide guidance and support to the entire production team regarding tasks, programs and production management
- Coordinate with planning and program control staff to manage internal operations and mitigate risks
- Interface and communicate with program managers and senior managers regarding received materials, production issues or other matters
- May act as production manager backup during absences or delegations
- Interface with senior management on critical failures and recovery plans and may participate in strategic resource initiatives when required
- Provide training and mentorship in the specific area of expertise, participate in performance evaluation and recommend development areas
- Conduct interviews with potential new employees
Process development, updates and implementation
- Ensure proper application and compliance with company-wide policies and processes by service personnel
- Support development and updating of service-specific policies, processes, work instructions and standards, and ensure they are accessible and followed
- Propose and lead new initiatives or participate in operational process improvement initiatives to enhance service or overall efficiency
- Ensure health and safety procedures and policies are observed and maintained
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent diploma in engineering or a related discipline
- Knowledge of electronic and mechanical technologies involved in producing space hardware is an asset
- 5 to 10 years of experience in engineering or manufacturing
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal, conflict resolution and leadership skills
- Aspirations to manage teams in a dynamic environment
- Experience or interest in developing skills in resource management, negotiation, risk management techniques and financial reporting
- Excellent understanding of planning tools and ERP logic; knowledge of planning, procurement, finance modules and their interrelation
- Advanced Excel skills
- Advanced interpersonal communication skills
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes is an asset
- Experience in a unionized environment

Selected candidates must obtain and hold a reliability-level security clearance and pass the security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.
