We are looking for a Supervisor, Test Engineering within our satellite systems team at our Montreal office.

Role:

The Supervisor, Test Engineering is responsible for the optimal conduct of test activities and coaching the work team to ensure that products are tested according to standards, technical specifications and quality requirements.

Tasks:

  • Leads different teams of engineers
  • Reviews program requirements, constraint assessment and operational conflict resolution
  • Actively works to improve working methods and processes related to production
  • Advises program managers and hierarchical managers on problems of conflicting demands for resources
  • Assigns production personnel based on the established production schedule
  • Acts as a coach, trains the staff in charge and actively participates in the development of their skills
  • Acts as the primary resource person for production employees
  • Monitors and accelerates the availability of resources, equipment and operations while respecting our quality standards
  • Communicates relevant information adequately and works to develop the autonomy and effective work of his team
  • Performs operations supervision tasks in the context of his specified areas and with knowledge of the company's collective agreements
  • In addition to supervising the direct employees of his group, the candidate will provide advice and support to the entire production team regarding its tasks, programs and production management
  • Communicates with program planning and control personnel to manage internal operations and mitigate risks
  • Acts as an interface and communicates with program managers and hierarchical managers regarding various issues related to received material, production or otherwise
  • May act as a replacement for the production manager in case of absence or delegation
  • Acts as an interface and communicates with hierarchical managers as needed about critical failures and recovery plans and may participate in senior management's strategic resource initiatives in specified areas
  • Provides training and coaching to employees in the specified area of expertise and participates in their performance evaluation by evaluating their performance and recommending areas for development
  • Conducts interviews with potential new employees

Process development, updating and implementation:

  • Ensure the proper application and compliance with general company policies and processes by department personnel.
  • Support the development and updating of department-specific policies, processes, work instructions and standards and ensure they are accessible to and complied with by personnel.
  • Propose and lead new initiatives, or participate in operational process improvement (BPO) initiatives to improve departmental or overall efficiency.
  • Ensure that all health and safety procedures and policies are followed and maintained.

Required Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree or similar degree in an appropriate discipline, Bachelor's or higher.
  • Knowledge of electronic and mechanical technologies involved in the production of space equipment is an asset.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in engineering / manufacturing.
  • The candidate must have demonstrated good human relations, conflict resolution and leadership skills.
  • Professional aspirations to manage teams of people in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience or interest in developing skills in resource management, negotiations, risk management techniques and financial reporting.
  • Excellent understanding of planning tools and ERP logic. Knowledge of planning, purchasing, finance and ERP system modules and understanding of the interrelationship of these modules.
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Advanced interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes is an an asset.
  • Experience in a unionized environment.

Special Considerations:

Successful candidates must obtain and maintain a reliability status security clearance and pass the security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.
