Role
The Test Engineering Supervisor is responsible for the optimal conduct of testing activities and for coaching the work team to ensure products are tested according to standards, technical specifications and quality requirements.
Tasks
- Lead various teams of engineers
- Review program requirements, assess constraints and resolve operational conflicts
- Actively work to improve work methods and production-related processes
- Advise program managers and hierarchical managers on conflicting resource requests
- Assign production personnel according to the established production schedule
- Act as a coach, train assigned staff and actively participate in the development of their skills
- Act as the main point of contact for production employees
- Monitor and accelerate availability of resources, materials and operations while respecting our quality standards
- Communicate relevant information appropriately and work to develop team autonomy and effective work
- Carry out operational supervision tasks within the context of specified areas and in awareness of the company's collective agreements
- Provide guidance and support to the entire production team regarding their tasks, programs and production management
- Communicate with planning and program control staff to manage internal operations and mitigate risks
- Serve as an interface and communicate with program managers and hierarchical managers regarding issues related to received materials, production or other matters
- May act as deputy to the production manager in the event of absence or delegation
- Serve as an interface and communicate with senior managers as needed regarding critical failures and recovery plans and may participate in strategic resource initiatives of senior management in specified areas
- Provide training and coaching to employees in the specified area of expertise and participate in performance evaluation by assessing performance and recommending development areas
- Conduct interviews with potential new employees
Process development, updates and implementation
- Ensure proper application and compliance with the company's general policies and processes by service personnel
- Support the development and updating of policies, processes, work instructions and service-specific standards and ensure they are accessible to and followed by staff
- Propose and lead new initiatives, or participate in operational process improvement (OIP) initiatives to improve service or overall efficiency
- Ensure all health and safety procedures and policies are followed and maintained
Required qualifications
- Degree in engineering or a similar qualification in an appropriate discipline, bachelor’s degree or higher
- Knowledge of electronic and mechanical technologies involved in the production of space hardware is an asset
- 5 to 10 years of experience in engineering/manufacturing
- Proven strong interpersonal skills, conflict resolution and leadership abilities
- Aspiring to manage teams in a dynamic environment
- Experience or interest in developing skills in resource management, negotiations, risk management techniques and financial reporting
- Excellent understanding of planning tools and ERP logic; knowledge of planning, procurement, finance and ERP system modules and understanding of the interrelation of these modules
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes is an asset
- Experience in a unionized environment
Special considerations
Selected candidates must obtain and hold a reliability-level security clearance and pass the security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.
