OSW Supervisor - Back office
Location: Mirabel, Quebec (Back Office)
Sector / Industry: Aeronautics - Business & Commercial Aircraft Programs (Global and A220)
Hierarchical Reporting: Operations / OSW Programs Manager or Head of Manufacturing Engineering Department
1. Purpose of the Position
Based in the back office at the Mirabel site, the Team Leader and OSW Methods Supervisor has overall responsibility for the critical handover between local production and the Final Assembly Line (FAL). This hybrid role combines cross-functional management of out-of-sequence work (OSW) and direct management of the Methods team dedicated to the creation and closure of finishing manufacturing routings.
As a key contact in Mirabel, they supervise technical preparers while coordinating stakeholders (production, engineering, quality, supply chain) to remove operational roadblocks, guarantee documentary compliance, and secure production rate at the client/FAL.
2. Main Missions and Responsibilities
Team Management & OSW Methods Engineering
• Supervise, lead, and develop the team of methods agents / technical preparers in charge of drafting and updating finishing routings.
• Plan the team's workload according to aircraft arrivals, deliveries, and priorities dictated by the FAL schedule.
• Ensure the creation of clear, safe, optimized, and compliant work instructions meeting engineering technical definitions, while guaranteeing proper allocation of allocable times, kitting, and tooling.
• Ensure the rapid creation of "emergency" routings to unblock hot spots in the FAL without compromising technical compliance.
Formalization, Transition & Monitoring of OSW Activities
• Formalize and structure the transfer of OSW activities resulting from aircraft deliveries for the Global and A220 programs to the FAL.
• Ensure continuity, traceability, and rigorous monitoring of the transferred aircraft portfolio.
• Define, consolidate, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the scope: remaining production hours, creation lead time and routing closure rate, assembly anomalies, and finishing kitting management.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Supply Chain Steering
• Serve as the central focal point in Mirabel to coordinate all stakeholders (Production, Scheduling, Methods, Logistics/Transport, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain).
• Remotely and continuously unblock critical issues with FAL teams to maintain daily production cadence.
• Drive the supply of parts, equipment, and kits from Mirabel to the FAL, and actively manage missing parts to prevent any assembly disruption.
Quality, Engineering & Continuous Improvement Monitoring
• Process and remotely monitor quality and engineering issues: non-conformities (RNC/QN), assembly anomalies, waivers, and change requests (EO/CN).
• Analyze OSW recurrences and root causes of routing anomalies to propose continuous improvement solutions (Lean Manufacturing, standardization) and reduce remaining work on future aircraft.
Interface, Reporting & Escalation
• Ensure daily interface between Mirabel support services and operational teams based at the FAL.
• Develop and present a structured weekly report on the complete status of OSW activities and routings for the client and management.
• Proactively escalate critical issues likely to impact costs, quality, safety, or delivery schedule (OTD).
3. Profile Sought
Education & Experience
• Education: Bachelor's degree (Bac+3 to Bac+5) / DEC / BAC in Aeronautical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Production Management.
• Experience: 5 to 8 years of experience in an aeronautical environment (methods, technical preparation, or program coordination), including proven team management or supervision experience.
• Experience on Global and/or A220 programs and knowledge of FAL operations (a major asset).
Technical Skills (Hard Skills)
• Recognized expertise in technical preparation / methods (drafting work instructions, reading 2D/3D drawings, assembly routings).
• Mastery of PLM, ERP systems, and production management tools (e.g., SAP, Catia V5/V6, Enovia, Solumina).
• Solid understanding of aeronautical assembly processes, Supply Chain flows (kitting management), and engineering document management.
• Strong data analysis capability to pilot load/capacity and track operational performance KPIs.
Interpersonal & Behavioral Skills (Soft Skills)
• Leadership & Coaching: Ability to directly supervise a technical team while mobilizing cross-functional contributors without direct hierarchical links.
• Sense of Urgency & Proactivity: Aptitude to anticipate bottlenecks for the FAL and act rapidly in a high-cadence environment.
• Rigor & Organization: High precision in documentary compliance and priority management.
• Communication & Synthesis: Excellent interpersonal and writing skills to ensure interface with management, engineering, and the final client.
Languages & Mobility
• Languages: Essential French / English bilingualism (daily multi-site collaboration and client reporting).
• Mobility: Occasional travel possible to the FAL site depending on program needs.
This job requires awareness of potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity as the foundation for the company's success, reputation, and sustainable growth.
