Position Summary

Reporting to the Repair Team Lead (Halifax), the Corrective Maintenance Support Technician is an entry level development role designed for a motivated new graduate to assist in the management and resolution of defects identified onboard the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPV) and Joint Support Ships (JSS) under the current In-Service Support Program (AJISS).

This role assists with the preparation, tracking and day to day data entry of corrective maintenance activities, ensuring high quality data accuracy with the Thales suite of tools (Maximo, JIRA, Confluence) and the customer's system of record (SAP/DRMIS). The Corrective Maintenance Support Technician will also act as the key administrative link for the Service Delivery Team, assisting in organizing Objective Quality Evidence (OQE), taking meeting minutes and tracking defect workflows. This position offers a direct pathway to developing comprehensive marine maintenance and project coordination expertise.

Special Position Requirements

  • Schedule: 40 hours per week during core business hours Monday–Friday.
  • Physical environment: Office or onboard naval ships alongside in harbor, or at sea; must meet federal government requirements to access Canadian government facilities, including naval dockyards.
  • Travel: Occasional domestic or international travel may be required, including access to government facilities and assets, including naval vessels.
  • Customer location based or site visits: Required to visit shipyards and naval dockyards during work periods.

Security Clearance

Requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, the ITAR or the EAR. Requires a positive Controlled Goods assessment as you will have direct access to controlled items, and the ability to obtain and maintain a NATO Secret level security clearance. All applicants must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for such access.

Key Areas of Responsibility

The AJISS Corrective Maintenance Support Technician will be responsible for:

  • Day-to-day entry, validation and processing of historical corrective maintenance data in the Thales suite of tools and the customer's system of record (DRMIS).
  • Uploading notifications from DRMIS into Thales tools to support alignment of technical databases and ensure data consistency across the fleet.
  • Executing assigned actions in Thales tools to ensure workflow momentum for all OPDEFs and Quick Response defects assigned to the team.
  • Assisting with organizing Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) to support internal close-out processes and satisfy FTA/MEPM requirements.
  • Assisting in drafting Statements of Work (SOW) for defect resolution and reviewing maintenance instructions to ensure service providers have sufficient information.
  • Supporting the tracking and resolution of corrective maintenance and providing internal and external stakeholders with status updates.
  • Attending weekly AAT/Pre-AAT (AJISS Assignment Team) meetings to capture, format and distribute accurate meeting minutes.
  • Assisting in gathering data and presenting materials for Material State Disclosure Conferences (MSDC) and key performance metric reviews.
  • Complying with all relevant Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) legislative requirements, policies and procedures, and promoting HS&E programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Recent graduate possessing an engineering degree or a technical diploma in project management, engineering technology, maritime studies or a related marine technical field from a recognized university or college program.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and organize data sets with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills with the ability to confidently interface between various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, capable of balancing multiple support priorities in a fast-paced waterfront environment.
  • A natural collaborator who fosters cooperative working relationships across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong computer literacy, with proven experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Foundational understanding of corrective maintenance, defect resolution or general project coordination principles is desirable.
  • Previous experience with document management or enterprise systems (SAP/DRMIS, MAXIMO, JIRA) desirable.
  • Prior co-op, internship, or educational projects within the defence, military or marine maintenance / ship repair sectors desirable.

Physical Demands

  • Predominantly office based, but will also be required to work onboard naval vessels, or remotely (including from home).
  • Inspections may require confined space entry, bending, twisting and working at heights.
  • Must meet all federal government requirements to access Canadian government facilities, including naval dockyards.
