JOB PURPOSE

The structural technician / sheet metal worker is part of the aircraft maintenance team responsible for performing structural repairs and modifications, as well as fabricating sheet metal to replace damaged aircraft parts and flight control surfaces.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Repair, replace and rebuild aircraft structures (e.g., wings and fuselage) at varying levels of difficulty using hand tools, power tools, machines and equipment (e.g., sheet bending and shearing equipment, welding equipment, rivet guns and drills).
  • Apply required expertise to carry out structural repairs and modifications and use full technical expertise to resolve moderate to complex issues.
  • Read and interpret manufacturers' and airline maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data and other specifications to determine the feasibility and method of repair or replacement of defective or damaged components.
  • Perform damage assessments for engineering.
  • Work closely with the team lead to ensure work is completed according to schedule.
  • Ensure work is carried out in accordance with Skyservice standards, policies and procedures and applicable regulations (Transport Canada, etc.).
  • Place orders for parts and supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS

  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience in sheet metal work.
  • Experience related to aviation is an asset.
  • S licence considered an asset.
  • AVOP (D/A or D) and a valid radio license.
  • A valid Transport Canada M-category license is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of operating welding and brazing equipment is an asset.
  • Able to work under pressure and adapt quickly to change and flexible shifts.
  • Attention to detail and a strong safety awareness in all procedures.
  • Good communication skills and a strong team spirit.

EDUCATION

  • Diploma in structures or sheet metal work or equivalent.
